Default New to tuning noob needs help

Hello everyone,

I have a completely stock 1993 Miata that I recently installed a MSPNP2 and an Innovate MTX-L wideband in it. I loaded the base map for 90-93 that is given by diyautotune, but my car would not start even after adjusting the req fuel numbers for my stock injectors. After playing around with the startup/idle settings, I got it started and running enough to where I could verify base timing. I checked it and adjusted it and it is correct now.

I purchased the full version of TunerStudio so that I could utilize the auto tune function for now, but I need help setting my AFR table. I am not sure what are good numbers for the table and where to put them. Does anyone have a good stock injector non turbo AFR table that they could share with me to start with? Also, I am lost as to what the ignition table should be like for a stock non turbo Miata. I have read countless threads and found plenty of turbo maps (ones going way above 100kpa) that I do not need to use currently.

If anyone could help me with setting my AFR table and ignition table for a stock non turbo 1993 Miata that would be awesome! I know I need to learn how to do all of this on my own, but I need a starting point so I don't feel like I'm messing stuff up.

Let me google that for you

For ignition, outaide of boost, the turbo abd NA engines are more or less the same, unless you have done major mods. So the info is close enough.

Well that was cool, I didn't know you could search just this site like that on Google. That would have saved me some time last night instead of searching through pages of threads manually and not finding much.

What do you think of this target AFR table? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...argets-ms2.jpg

I picked this one because it was the only one I saw that didn't have boost kpas included

what's wrong with the afr target table that came in the base map?

just cause it's scaled for boost doesn't affect anything n/a

It seems like the car runs too rich with the autotuner tuning for the target AFRs that came with the base map. Just about the whole cruising area is in the 12-13:1 range

This is what I have. I don't recall changing any value in this table since loading the base map.

oh yeah that's real fat.
use this up to 105kpa, and just copy the 95kpa row into the 105kpa row. should be real close

theres 5 billion others too if you just google "Miata target afr table" that was just the 1st that I happened to look at. target afr is super easy, don't overthink it.

You want close to stoich below 80kpa, and close to 15.5 in the cruise cells. you want low 13's to mid 12's at wot depending on what octane you're tuning for.

Yeah, the base map table is for a V8 or something. I did mine similar to this, but pulled the leanish cruise region down to 2800 or so.

I will likely make a new one now that I have more of an idea of what I am doing.

Thank you!

Do I need to mess with anything in the ignition table to go along with the AFR table you suggested? Again, this is still the same map that was loaded with the base map.

Build a new one. That one looks weird.

Nvm, seems 18psi thinks it is fine. Althogh I did the below on my 1.6.

Read posts #2740 to #2770 in this thread, paying perticular attention to 2755 and 2770. I built mine on that the other day and it is working well on 87 octane.

Guess I will be bumping my timing a bit more. I know this engine doesn't mind being way advanced, since I had it set to a base timing of 22* instead of 10* for a long time (timing mark moved and I just did it by feel and retarding it a bit if I got det on hot days).

1.6 is super low compression, and makes like no torque lol

Joe messed with his and ran up to like 45+ in CRUISE cells and was fine

So is my current ignition table safe for 87 octane in 100* Louisiana weather?

No torque is right. I wish I had bought a 1.8, oh well. Lesson learned

Ok, I am deffinetly going to play with timing then. I was going to eventually play with bunping it up, I am curious what I can get away with running regular (the 22* base timing was on 87 octane, btw)

your knock sensor and/or det cans will tell you. I think OEM runs somewhere around 27 at 100kpa/wot

Well I've been riding around on autotune with one of the AFR tables that you guys suggested above and I haven't heard any knock and it hasn't blown up yet, so I guess the ignition table is all right for now lol. It is running great and the AFR is much better. Thanks a bunch!
