Default problems getting car started on the MS

I installed the megasquirt in the miata last weekend. i had braineack build me an MSII, which he sent to me with a map for my setup (bone stock 1.8).

i installed the AFM delete, ran a vacuum line off the back of the IM, and plugged in the stock harness.

I thought that it was going to just start right up and idle, but i was wrong. it cranked but didnt fire. So i hooked it up to the laptop and tunerstudio wouldnt connect because of mismatched firmware. i then upgraded the MS to 3.03 firmware and flashed the DIYPNP startup map.

car still wont start, i pulled this log of me cranking...

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EBEUEUQE

after this i hooked it back up to the stock ECU, and it still wont start. it barely turns over, and makes some strange noises when i crank it.

sorry for the long post, but i really dont know where to go from here.

did you disconnect the coilpacks\igintor before flashing the MS? Also did you reconnect the AFM when testing the stock ecu?

i did all the MS flashing on a stim.

i forgot to hook the AFM back up after i reconnected the stock ECU, cranked it over once. it popped, then i reconnected the AFM, still no start.

i checked for spark the other day, i'd get one nice big spark the first time my wife turned the key, then nothing until she turned the ignition off and back on again on cyl 1 & 4. nothing on 2 & 3...

i found a few threads via search where others had this same issue. one guy's MS wasnt connected securely, and the other never posted if he got it fixed or not.

what do wires being brand new have to do with this?
and what happened when you switched firing order? did only the other two work?

i thought you were implying i wasnt getting a spark due to bad wires...

i get spark (sort of) from one coil, not the other

it's a v3 MSII

i downloaded the msq from here:

http://www.diyautotune.com/diypnp/ap...5-18bp-mt.html

i used the .msq tuned for the stock injectors

edit: i apparantly downloaded the .msq for the 1.6. would that cause the car to not start?

minus injector sizing and outputs like fan and a/c relays, it's all more or less the same.

So.... 1.6 injectors are smaller, would you not adjust cranking pw's accordingly?

You'll first need to get with Scott and see if your basemap is configured for how he built your hardware. There are critical settings that may not transfer over correctly from our DIYPNP basemap to your MS2. One example would be the setting that determines how the coils charge and fire.

You have a stim right? Do you see proper operation on the stim?

If you don't have any reading on the stim, then you're probably not going to get any reading on the car either. The first thing I'd like you to do is get a couple of clear pics showing how the stim is set up, as you'll need to get the pullups, tach mode dip switches, and 2nd trigger input all situated correctly. We'll also need to know which pin on the MegaSquirt is set up for 2nd trigger input.

Also, what I'd like you to do is power up the MegaSquirt on the Stim, open up TunerStudio and go to Communications > Mini Terminal, then turn the MegaSquirt off and on again. Do this and let me know if Mini Terminal reports anything.

i just brought the MS in and hooked it up to the stim to turn it on and off via mini terminal, and it was freaking out. rpm's were fluctuating between 1 and 46 thousand. everything else seemed to work normally.

im looking for my camera to take some good pics of the stim right now....
