Default Finally Cleaned Up The Install

Finally cleaned up my install.... parallel, so I mounted the MS as close to the stock ECU as possible to keep the harness short.

Also got my gauge panel finished (yes, it's real carbon fiber... I had some scrap laying around)

The pink wire was left out on purpose... that's for the O2 sensor which should be here on Monday. I didn't want to have to dig back under the carpet to install it.

If anyone else installs their's here make sure you drill the pilot hole very shallow and probe to check for gas tank clearance. Two of my mounting holes were too close to the gas tank so I had to cut the screws down 3/8" or so.

Cool stuff. I'm gonna scrap my switchbox this fall. Replacing it with a patch harness with bullet connectors.

What do the switches do?

looks like they allow him to switch between the MS and his stock ECU. I think I would install aircraft style safety switches on there though with the little flip covers. Might help eliminate an "oops" moment.

Until I get my MS tuned to where I feel comfortable running it all the time, I want the ability to easily switch between the two systems, but I also still want my Cruise Control and A/C to work for both MS and Stock ECU's. I assume you just have the switch flip between powering the MS and the Stock ECU in RUN/START? That probably won't work for me since I'm sure the Stock ECU needs to be in RUN to operate the Cruise Control and A/C relays (A/C I could probably wire directly from the switches but no point if I'm keeping Cruise Control).

So, are you running Cruise Control through the Stock ECU when in MS?

Cruise control is for pansy asses.... I've got bad knees and have no problem with 1500 mile journeys.

I cannot/will not help people MS their cruise control.

I think it more or less allows him to either run fully megasquirt or parallel.

Pretty cool I think, but I dont understand the benefits of running completely megasquirt since you lose AC and cruise control.

It's apparent that he thinks things like cruise control and A/C are for pansy asses. I'd be surprised if he ran an Idle Air Bypass motor, people like him probably run manual idle bypass valves, more control, less pansy ***.

A/C can be controlled by MS, who has cruise?
The switches allow him to run spark or fuel on ms or stock ECU independent of each other.

Uh you do know that criuse is a totally seperate system from the ecu right?
IT is just a vac controlled, dealy with a rpm interface, and a brake/clutch disconnect, that actuates the throttle, to maintain a certian laod or less.

Looking good Arkmage, I really need to get a case for mine.

It is currently hiding under the passenger seat. Full standalone. I have no A/C or cruise.

Correct. It was done that way so I could tell if a problem is caused by the MS or something else until I'm confident the MS is setup and tuned properly.

My setup is in parallel instead of stand alone for emmisions reasons. Parallel allows me to keep OBD2 control of ALL of the emissions equipment which satisfies TX requirements for inspection. The law states that "stock emissions equipment may not be removed or modified" the exceptions are replacing failed components with better ones or upgrading to better emissions equipment if/when it becomes available.

I should have no problem passing inspection parallel.... stand alone I never will.

That makes sense, but how will you run fuel using the stock computer if it cant handle 460CC injectors? or even spark, while running in boost?

I ain't boosted yet. And the stock ECU can handle spark fine for diagnosing issues at idle. I bet 9/10 times if there is something physically wrong with the MS is will not function at idle (as well as everywhere else).

Yeah I'm ignorant; working on fixing that, that's why I'm here. I've also been called much worse than a bastard, with good reason. It takes quite a bit to **** me off and calling me a pansy *** won't do it. It's just irritating when people think that wanting creature comforts makes one a sissy.

I've done the days of driving in icy winters with in a car with nothing but a racing seat, gauges, peddles, shifter and steering wheel. My heater was the heat coming off the transmission, minus the water sprayed up through the transmission tunnel. There's no reason to put someone down because they don't want to be as hard-core as someone else.

On a different note. I do like how you're running both systems in parallel to keep the emissions equipment. Are the switches just redirecting the injector/coil outputs between the stock and MS ECU's? Did you wire up transistors or relays to do the switching?
