Default How much Import Duty to the UK?

Hi all,

This is my first post so Hi and Happy New Year etc ...

First off I don't have a Miata or MX5 etc.. but I have fitted the 1600cc engine and gearbox out of a Miata/MX5 in my Clubmans/Lotus 7 style kitcar.

I'm planning to fit a Megasquirt (I currently have the original Mazda ignition/injection system fitted) as a standalone system and was looking at the DIYAutotune website for prices etc...

I intend to use a Megasquirt I Pcb3.0 with MSnS-Extra. I'll do the mod's to use the CAS and the stock ignitors as per the info' on the DIYAutotune website.

The problem is I'm in England. Hence I'll have to pay local Customs duty on top of the DIYAutotune prices.

My main question is has anyone here imported the DIYAutotune kits?

and if so can you tell me how much I should expect to pay for Customs duty?

Thanks for your help and keep up the good work

I thought MS was developed in England...? Check to see if there are any local dealers.

developed by Bruce Bowling and Al Grippo, they could never be British names we're all called Harold and Derek over here :gay:

Edit:

For import duty you're looking at *roughly* adding a third onto the cost that you paid for all of your kit.

Customs into EU: not much (1-3% if anything)
VAT: 17% (in UK, 25% here) on top of all costs (stuff+shipping+customs)

Some assembled kits here:
http://www.extraefi.co.uk/products.htm (first google hit, there might be better ones)

Yeah that's what I meant when I said import duty, though I didn't really explain very well, I'll try again

Our VAT is 17.5% add on all the other charges and you'll end up with about 30% of the price you paid for the kit.

Just do it, unless you know someone travelling to the states you can't really avoid it unfortunately :( I took the hit too, it's not so bad as the costs are spread over a few weeks

Thanks everyone.

There is a British supplier and I was planning on comparing the cost to import a DIYAutotune kit with his price. Being in Britain does give him other advantages so I'll ask him for a price and see how I get on.

This is my car.

Thanks again

Hi mate, I do hope that you finally get your MS, the price he will give you is actually worth it as he WILL support you even on a cold Saturday night. I know who he is because you asked him for my email (Dimitris). Cheers,

Jim

Hi Jim/Dimitris,

I think I've reached a point where I know what I need to do the job so I'll be sending Bill another email soon.

This forum has turned out to be a goldmine of useful information and extremely helpful people.

Thanks again
