Default Started MS Today

Actually started and finished soldering my JimStim board today. It went pretty smooth. Will start on the MS next week. Enclosed are a few pix of my project. I am in research phase for my turbo set-up. Reading a lot and some of it is still Greek to me, but it will come in time. And don't laugh about my Electronics for Dummies book. I helps me to understand what the hell all of those things I have been soldering all day are able to do. Looking for a "Turbos For Dummies" but have not found it yet....LOL. I also purchased a BEGI 1.8 Manifold from Strider. It will be on the way to me next week.

Yes, the decision has been made, No to Supercharging and YES to Turbo!!

Slow shutter speed fail.

Electronics assembly win!

Glad to see it's all coming together for you. That big bag 'o parts can look intimidating, but it all starts to flow after a while.

A decent warning for anyone looking at the "How to tune and modify Engine Management Systems" book. It contains ZERO information on tuning an EMS. It explains what an EMS is, what sensors an EMS uses, but thats it. NO TUNING INFORMATION. Lame.

Yes I am not all that happy with that book either.Any suggestions on a good book to help tune? I would like to read all I can on this forum and anywhere else before I throw myself to the Tuning Gods at MIATATURBO.net. That could be a painful experience if I my homework is not done.

I was trying to pay close attention to everything that had to be installed in a specific direction (ie:diodes, led's). I will apply power to the unit tonight, hopefully there is no smoke. LOL
Keys are for the wifes TL.

Electronics run on smoke. It's just a matter of not letting it escape.

OK, MS finally done. I would post pix, but seen one you have seen them all. Now what I need to know is which software installation sticky, post or whatever is the most up to date and accurate to get me started. I am very persistent figuring out software, but I would rather not spend the time if someone has already done it. It seems there are many resources to get the info but the simplest ones are a couple of years old and others just do not make any sense to me at this point in time. Any help will be appreciated

I used Brain's writeup to build my squirt and install the software. To get the car started and running, I found myself surfing lots of different threads and the Megamanual to get the info I needed. DIYAutotune has a miata specific install on their site also. By cross referencing these sources, I was confident in my setup.

I wanted to get all my settings as close as I could before I even turned the key.Aside from having to burn the firmware a few times, it pretty much started right up!

Of course I had many, many questions but this was my first electronic/computer programming project...ever!!! All the info is available here, you just got to search a little to get it. It's a small price to pay for how cool and sexy it will make you.

MiataTurbo.net actually made my ***** larger.LOL!

Good Luck with it.

Go to DIY's website and download the software package they have. It has hi-res 10g firmware, Megatune, MLV, pretty much what you need to get started.
EDIT: Not sure if that package contains easytherm, but you'll need that too. Scroll down the same software page.

Default Need Connector and Answer

(1) 64 Pin Male connector (174518-7)
Does anyone have one laying around they do not need? I found a source, but there is a minimum order and I would need to buy 5 of them.

Also where do I find out what the differences are for the different firmware available? I succesfully installed 029y4 . and it has also been recommended to use 10g hi-res. I do not have a ******* clue, yet.

For the MS1 CPU, there are two major code threads that are of interest to you. And sadly, they're not well organized.

The first is MS1E(xtra), of which 029y4 is the current release.

The second is HighRez, which is based upon MS1E, with modifications to sacrifice lo-z injector drive for finer fuel PW resolution. The latest builds of that code tend to live in this forum: MSx/Extra EFI • View forum - MS1/Extra Development
