Default Problems

OK, I thought I finnally had this thing figured out. Now I am back to the drawing board.

Anyway. I put a fuel pump on the car, another cas, ignition, swapped relays, from one running car to another.

When I turn the key to start it. I get 3 sparks and nothing. I pulled the MSpnp and installed the original computer. Sparked great with no fail.
I did this twice more. Same thing.

So I reflashed the firmware, and installed base map. Changed to wbo2 and 440cc injectors settings.
No spark again.

Stock ecu spark.

--------------------
So i send it to DIYautotune the week of PRI. So the test car is out of town. LOL
My little brother has problems with his car and has my 91 in Texarkana, Ar.

I'm driving my 90 Chevy truck with almost no brakes, paint, exhaust or mirrors. And it is sleeting, freezing rain, and misty this week.

I need this car on the road. PRONTO!
It is kinda funny!
-----------------------------------------------------
Well Diyautotune checked it out and found nothing wrong with it. It started the test car right up. And is sending it back tommorrow. So I am back to the drawing board.

Is there some type of setting that could pull spark on startup. Or if fuel wasn't detected, would it pull spark? I just put a good spare 255 fuel pump in it. It runs and all. And afr's go to 15 on start up.

I don't know why the spark is stopping on Ms and not the factor ecu.
Do you think my stock fuel pressure regulator took a dump? I need a fuel pressure gauge.

If I had a vaccume leak could it mess with the map and cause it to cut spark? On start up?
Any suggestions?

Im not much help b/c I've never used an MS (built one once, but thats it)

I dont think it has anything to do with fuel or vacuum leak. Is your battery nice and strong? Maybe try some other coils? Does MS show RPM while you're turning the engine over?

It does for 1 second and stops.
I would say it is a short. but the stock ecu sparks. I'm going to run back over the wires and see if there is a bad connection. Maby the stock ecu doesn't need as much current. And a wire is almost broke or thin.

You know what. I'm just going to call my mom and have her pray for it. LOL

The ms is good, so what could it be?

I'll give John wag a call tommorrow. Mabe he can swing by and see if he sees something I missed. A fresh set of eyes can make a big difference sometimes.

I could swear you're the one I told "your coil pack is dying. IE-leaking" to. If so, you still need to change it. Let me know when you do and we'll go from there.

Well I just so happen to have some at the house........LOL
But it sparks blue like a champ with the stock ecu in. And I never heard of 2 going out at once.
But at this point, Ill try anything.

Mabe even sweet love to the gas tank. I haven't spent quality time with her in a while.

I just found this. I should get my MS back tommorrow or Monday.

I taped all my accessory wires up. But I'll recheck for this. I haven't installed my knocksence yet. Or messed with any of the settings. So I don't think this is it. But if the knock wire grounded to another wire.

Knock sensor:
A bad one can be noted by a random no spark condition that seems to correct itself after sitting for a short time, or a car that has no spark at all even though all the ignition components are in working order. One of the less common malfunctions with these units that I have seen is where the ignition computer won’t take over ignition control as it should and the distributor won’t advance under acceleration. This can mean the car will start and run fine, but will be overtly slow to accelerate.

From your logs, it looked like the CAS was flaking out as you weren't getting RPM. I've seen cases where the CAS works well enough to get a stock ECU limping along, but the MSPNP won't work.

Whewwwwww! I finally found it!
All the wires were connected and seemed fine.

And finally a wire on the connector to THE CAS, snapped at a soldered connection. I guess it was barely hanging on.

This car was owned by the previous owner of Rotary performance. They swore it had never been turbo'ed or supercharged.

Well under all the shrink wrap, everywire has been soldered where the Msd box hooks up.
It had the right exhaust and everything. I knew it had been. Either that or nos at some point.

Anyway I am so happy to have it running again!

I bought the car from someone else. I figured the car had been turbo'ed when I bought it. And the old man, looked at me and said, You know you can turbo it!?

I replied, I have one in the floor for it. LOL... He looked shocked. He said "do what". I said yea I have one at home for it.
He told me he bought it from the owner of Rotary performance.

I didn't car if the motor blew up in it on the way home. I got a good deal on it.

I wanted to know what the car had done to the motor and clutch. So I went up there. It was almost like he was hiding something. Almost like he thought I was a under cover someone trying to inspect his shop. He was somewhat weird.

And of course, he said they never mess with miata's. But the one they did mess with didn't make good hp. Only low 200's.

Well, I guess i got that one. LOL.

I like the 200's.
