Ok folks, educate me. - Not sure where to post this.

As I understand it, A mustang dyno is steady state, a dynojet is an inertia dyno. I am installing a Hydra in my '01 and likely a MSPNP in my '94 this spring and want to do my final tuning on a steady state dyno.

I have only been able to find one Mustang dyno locally. What other dyno's are steady state? Is the dyno dynamics dyno a steady state?

Depends on the DynoJet. Newer ones have Eddy Current option available. I have tuned on one.

That's true-- newer EgoJet's have a Eddy current option-- I've not tuned on one yet but if they do everything that the others do they should be fairly good for tuning.

I know the EFI101 guys will only do a class at your shop if you own a DynaPack or a Dyno Dynamics machine. They don't take anything else seriously.... That said, I've tuned some of you guy's cars on a Mustang, and it did the trick just fine and had the control I needed. Not the best diagnostic machine, but for tuning, just fine...

steve, i think you'll quickly find you wont be able to really tune your spark map on a steady state dyno given that you'll overheat the car in about 10 seconds holding, say, 6000 rpm and 8 psi.

however, you can set the hydra to autotune fuel very easily EVEN on a regular dynojet. I would bet 3 runs is plenty to nail your fuel targets. it's a slow enough pull that if you set your autotune rate high enough (30-35ish), you'll get good results.

Then if you want to do the spark tuning, you can just make changes and do another run or three.

You guys forgot the Land & Sea Dynomite....I guess its not very popular but they have some great features.

BTW, both Mustang and Dyno Dynamics have inertia-only models available too so you need to ask specifically if its a brake dyno.

Yep, Dyno Dynamics is my personal fave.

I last used a eddy current dynojet at Turbo Hoses out in Cali, and it did everything you'd want. We set it to hold at 3200 rpm, and we tuned all the rows out, then moved on.
