Default Building an MS2 V3 board for 1.6 - Ignition output question

Do i need to do the "better spark out" circuit to prevent pops when the MS2 processor will be used?

I'll be running sequential COPs

Cheers
Nuno

Assuming you're using internal ignitord COPS then yes.

If the answer to the above is no and you're installing 4 BIP's then no.

Or you wire the coils to power on with the fuel pump relay.

MS2s power up a lot faster than MS1s - they're less likely to get the pop when they power up. It wouldn't hurt to use that circuit though.

I still get it even with the circuit... Whcih confuses me, it was completely eradicated on MS1 and I didn't change the igntion circuits for MSII.

I don't buy having a leaky injector either, even if I did have a leaky injector the leaed fuel shouldn't ignite until the engine syncs up and the coils start firing.

Thanks guys.

The COPs are the Toyota Corolla 4 pin jobs everyone here uses (internal ignitor).

I was intending on using the 4 channel ignition/injection board with the BIP373's.
My plan was to jumper from the ignition outs straight to the add on board and not even populate the V3 board with Q6, Q7, Q8, etc.
I was also planning on doing that with the 4 injector outputs on the V3 board (after modding the MS2 daughtercard) and also not build the injector circuits on the V3 board.

Then wire the add on board outs through to the new harness.

Is that an ok plan or a recipe for disaster?

FWIW on MS1 it never popped without the improved circuit. Added the circuit and it made no difference.

Ok built the V3 board as much as is needed for the MS2 to run on a 1.6 (fuel pump, idle, ebc).
The ignition/injection board will take care of the other circuits, I also have the max9936 chip doing the ignition inputs so there's really not much on the V3 board.

I've loaded the code in the MS2 daughter card and am wondering if I have to do anything with the output settings for the outputs used as the extra spark outs in sequential mode like:
spark a - LED 14 - PM3
spark b - LED 16 - PM4
spark c - LED 15 - PM5
spark d - JS11 - PA0

I'm assuming when looking at TS that the Extended > Output Port Settings , should remain off when 4g63 wheel modes and sequential is selected right?

One other curiosity of mine is the trigger settings for the CAS in 4g63 mode. They're fixed right? I don't don't have to worry about the angle offset and skip pulses, or do i?
I'm hoping it's just setting my fixed angle to 10 under > more ignition options > fixed advance - fixed timing, then adjusting with a timing light (similar to MS1).

These questions do sound but I haven't been able to find an answer in my searches.

The only references I've found have been for injector sequence and coil wiring.

Cheers
Nuno

If you use BIP373 high current ignition modules with your internal ignitor Toyota coils, something will smoke. You want to build 5V logic level ignition outputs, 2 for wasted spark or 4 for coil per plug. Then you do *not* want to activate any of your ignition outputs as general purpose outputs, or you will cause a configuration error. You could reference one of our DIYPNP start up maps to see how to set up your .msq for Miata ignition. Here is a link showing the ignition timing set up procedure:

Thanks Ben
Guess I won't be using BIP373's then (I'll build 5V outs instead).
I was intending on using a DIYPNP .msq but was unsure if it really was as easy as just picking the CAS mode, not needing to set up trigger points between timing pulses will be a big plus.

Cheers

Yes, it's as simple as picking 4G63. MS2 settings are user friendly.
