Electronic Det-Cans - Group Buy...ish
Finally the time has come, these are officially going on sale. For those of you who are just now hearing about this, allow me to review:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sound quality is excellent, even better than my prototype, which I attribute to the use of a PCB instead of a bunch of wires on a perfboard.
These will be battery powered and non-permanent install only. I cant quite seem to get the same kind of clarity using a cig-lighter plug and filtered voltage regulator.(Even using 5v from a megasquirt on my bench to power the detcans still produces an unacceptable amount of noise, so I know I'm not crazy.) I feel that given the purpose of these tools, sound quality is of the utmost importance, and I'm just not willing to compromise that for the nicety of car power.
Pics:
*batteries not included :P
Shot of the volume adjustment. Everything is thru-mounted and feels SOLID. This isn't going to break anytime soon.
The hole around the power indicator LED is slightly sloppy, I'm going to grab some more drill bits tomorrow on my way home from work so that they are neater. This is how all of the units will fit together though.(except slightly farther apart on the IO).
You asked for it, and you got it: Detachable mics. I will be offering replacement mics just in case.
The price for these is $55 shipped anywhere in the US. I will be shipping via USPS priority, if you live outside the US, PM me for a quote.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have the first batch of 10 completed (1 is possible DOA, I think the IC is dead, I'll get it fixed tonight) and will follow shortly with 25 more. If you would like one, please post in here and/or shoot me a PM. I will send you paypal info and get your shipping address. I will be updating this list as time goes on. If you would like to be removed, please let me know. I will be PMing people as their units are completed and ready to be shipped.

This is in accordance with the people who were OK with having a non-permanent install and battery powered, followed by those who said they were interested in general. For those of you who are farther down the list, I now have a very good idea of how to pump these things out so as soon as the new supplies come in I will be shipping them out as they are completed (no more than 2 weeks I'd expect).
To be honest, I don't see me expanding on these any further unless there is some sort of terrible flaw (there isn't) that needs to be corrected. Which means there will most likely not be a car powered or permanent install at this time unless there is a LOT of interest. I have several other projects that I would like to get rolling (active knock control for the MS using a TXS knocklite being one of them, the other is an inexpensive stand alone EBC ala greddy profec) and these do exactly what I intended them to in their current form. These aren't designed to be bolted in all the time and listened to, they are meant to be used as a diagnostic aid when tuning. If you really need to listen to your engine every single day, your tune is screwed anyway .

Will you be making more in the future? I don't need one yet, but might in a few months. Will you still take orders then?
