Groupie Buy #3 Starting 10Hz Bluetooth GPS Module CHEAP.
Update 1:
First 10 have paid, bluetooth and GPS chips have been ordered. Both should be at my door by April 8th at the latest. 4 more spots for people who haven't signed up yet.
Update 2:
Second group buy is full. PMs will be sent out about PayPal and addresses.
Update 3:
Bluetooth chips have arrived.
Its happening.
Some of you guys may have seen over here that I have been putting together a bluetooth GPS module for as cheap as possible.
What it is:
Many track day enthusiasts are familiar with phone apps such as RaceChrono, Harry's Lap Timer, etc. They use your phones built in GPS to track your speed and lap times while driving on the track. The only problem with this is that your phone's GPS only updates once per second, giving you an effective lap time error of ~1 second. Using an external Bluetooth GPS you can cut this down to .1 second instead. The cheapest commercially available 10Hz GPS is around . Which for me was too much. So this project started. This is a combination of readily available breakout boards that I will combine for you and package in a fancy little case. It is powered by a mini-usb port, so any car charger and mini-usb cable will work just fine. You get a small module that fits in the palm of your hand, for the cost of parts and shipping (because I'm nice like that).
How its going to work:
My current situation doesn't leave me the financial capital to buy a bunch of these modules at once, so I'm going to start off with a 10 person group buy. Once I get 10 people committed I will ask for your money. Once everyone has paid I will buy all the parts and assemble everything for you. If 10 fills up really fast and there are more people interested I will probably expand it a bit.
What you get:
1 module, soldered together in a case.
1 suction cup face
4 suction cups
1 normal face (for you to use whatever other sticky method you want to try and use to stick this to your car.
Cost:
The first group buy will be $35. After that it will increase, probably not by much, depends on how long these end up taking to assemble, and other factors. This price includes shipping.

Disclaimer:
I have tested and used this and it has worked great for me. But I am not a company, and not a full time support line. I will do my best to help with any issues that come up but cannot guarantee 100% that this will work perfectly. I take no responsibility if it ruins your day in any way shape or form.

Just to clarify. After we get 10 people I'll ask for money. Mostly just to buy the GPS chips. After that I'm thinking I will open a second 10 person group and if/when that fills up I'll order another batch of the chips. I don't want to commit to too many at one time in case something happens or I run out of time.

Ok so that went way faster than I thought it would. I'm going to open up one more group of 10 for the time being. But no more than that. I really don't want to get into this over my head.
Don't worry though if these 20 go smoothly then I will continue doing this.
