So Yazeem dropped off his 1.6 last Friday night. Check out his build thread for how to properly and reliably turbo. He did the MS first, then cops, then GT500 injectors, then clutch, and finally showed up to my house with intercooler piping 90% done. Made the rest of the install relatively painless.

I have the 1.6 manifold jigged and have 4 more manifolds that just need the t3 flange attached. My favorite part about the 1.6 setup is that when you decide to build a 1.8 motor and become a real man. You just swap out to the 1.8 manifold and then turn up the boost.
I am also working on 5 more 1.8 manifolds. Once I get them done I will be starting group buy number 2. Supporting 1990-2005 Miata's.
<p>I guess I'll leave these here as a final update until I can get some dyno time. Only difference to the tune over the 3 days was doing work on the ignition table but I also spent time pulling the compressor off and adding a gasket and copper gasket maker on the compressor mounting surface + sealed up the 3 bolts (Teflon tape) that go through into the compressor tract. Like ScottyP3821 I noticed a lot of leakage around that joint. I also checked to make sure I wasn't getting any other leaks from the cold side piping.</p><p>Try as I may, I can't get the boost to spool up like Sonofthehill did. Best I can do repeatably is 12PSI @ 3400 - 3500RPM. Not sure what I should expect so I guess I'll live with it.</p><p>I haven't gotten my head around EBC yet (having spent the weekend trying) so I'm running my MBC unit instead. From the logs though I don't see any boost issues though. But I'm a noob at turbos.</p><p>No huge effort was made at porting the wastegate although I did do some as noted in an earlier post. I am formally introducing the MK Turbo T3 budget DIY setup. It is a budget setup to get 1.6 NA and 1.8L NA and NB miata's boosted at a reasonable price. Retail on the kit is $1500 shipped to the continental US.
What you get.
1. T3 Log Manifold
2. T3 Turbo with 2.5" v-band outlet
3. 2.5" to 3" downpipe with v-bands at either end.
4. 3" Aluminized steel exhaust with a large Magnaflow muffler, v-bands for all connections
5. EGR block off plates. (1.6 cars do not get these)
Group Buy #2 is starting today, September 1 2015 and running until September 15th 2015. The new price on my setups are $1500 shipped in the continental USA. Group buy #2 is not going to be as cheap as the first one, but still cheaper then retail. I am doing $25 off the retail price for each person who signs up, up to 5 people. So if we get 5 people it will be $125 off the retail price, which is $1375 shipped for each person. The total limit is going to be 10 people in this group buy. There will be a $900 deposit over paypal, money order, or bit coin to get in. This is refundable only if we can find a replacement buyer. The remainder will be due when your setup is ready to ship. If you want an oil line setup to go along with the turbo setup, that money will be due up front also.
There are a few differences between the first group buy and this one.
The first is that I am now offering 1.6 setups. You get a mild steel log manifold that is compatible with AC and power steering. It is a similar design as the 1.8, except for the turbo sits a bit further forward. The reason it sits a bit further is so that the down pipe, mid pipe, and exhaust are the same as the 1.8. This cuts down on the amount of work I have to do, and makes it possible to upgrade to a 1.8 engine in the future very easily. All you have to do is change out to my 1.8 manifold and the rest of the setup will stay the same.
The second is that I am planning on getting the mid pipes made as a single mandrel bent piece. All I will have to do is throw on the 2 v-bands and it is complete. This cuts down on my build time, and possible places for welds to crack. This is the real reason for the group buy, as I need capital to get those produced in quantity to make it affordable.
The third thing is that I now am providing EGR block off plates for both EGR ports on the 1.8 intake manifolds. This is mostly just to help clean up your engine bay a bit more.
The goal for getting these shipped out is the first 5 by Christmas time. Then the next ones shortly after that. To help speed this up I am already working on getting parts built. I have 4 1.6 manifolds about 75% complete, and I am currently working on the 1.8 manifolds. I also have all the supplies in house to build the first 5 down pipes. I am hoping to have all the manifolds and 5 downpipes done by the time the group buy closes. The one thing that I will be waiting on is the custom bent mid pipes. I am hoping to have those by the end of September, but it may be sometime in October before I get them. By the time I get them I am hoping to have the axle backs done. So all I will have to do is weld on the 2 v-bands flanges on the mid pipes and start shipping them out. I will be building the setups in batches of the different models. This means all 1.6 setups will be done at once, all 1.8 NA setups at once, and all 1.8 NB setups at once. This is to make it easier for me to test fit them all as I build them. The order that I build each type will be by whoever gets in the first deposit. I will build all of that type and ship them out. Then move on to the next type.
MKTurbo.com is also now live. I have some changes that are coming in the future to it, but overall it is about where it is going to stay.

1. Does the setup work with the 1.6l engine?
Yes I now offer a 1.6 manifold that works with the rest of the exhaust.
2. Does the setup work with power steering and air conditioning, what years?
Yes it works with power steering and AC. The setup will work on any 1.6L or1.8L Mazda motor in a 90-05 miata.

4. Can I get a catalytic converter installed with the kit?
Yes, it will just cost extra based on how you want it done.
5. Will any parts of the MKTurbo exhaust work with any other exhausts parts of various brands?
No. The MKTurbo setups use v-band flanges instead of normal flanges that use nuts and bolts, or studs. They are also in different locations then the stock flanges.
6. Why does the MKTurbo setup use v-bands on the exhaust?
Using v-bands instead of standard flanges makes installing the exhaust simple, quick, and painless.
7. How long should it take to install?
With 2 competent mechanics it should take about an hour to install the setup once all the stock equipment is removed and prep work is done. It will take additional time to install everything else needed to safely run the car.
8. What all is needed to turbo the car besides this setup? This thread is a good guide on what all is needed besides this setup. If you are to lazy to read that then you will need an ECU and wideband, clutch, injectors, oil feed and drain line, intercooler and piping, and a blow off valve. That is the quick run down of what you have to do yourself.
9. What type of muffler is it.
It is a Magnaflow 12589.
10. Will I use a different muffler or change anything in the exhaust for you?
No, I keep costs down by having a single simple setup, and variation will add to the cost.
11. Does it have CARB approval?
No, and it never will. Go with Begi, Jackson Racing, or FFS if you must have CARB approval.
12. Will the wastegate need to be ported?
Yes, there are various pictures posted in this thread of how much porting needs to be done.
13. Will it work with a FM butterfly brace?
I don't know as I don't have one on any of my test cars. I would side with no it won't fit above the butterfly brace.
14. Will this setup work on the track?
I honestly do not know. You would have to use inconel studs for sure, I would recommend the TSE studs. The biggest concern I would have is where the v-band outlet of the turbo bolts to the turbo. That may need stronger bolts to prevent stretching on track. Track testing will be done, but there is currently no ETA.
15. Does and part of the body need to be cut to fit the setup?
Nothing in the engine bay needs to be cut or hammered to fit the setup. There are a few places under the car that the exhaust my hit. Those may need to be ground down slightly. More details will be in the install directions.
16. Are there install directions?
They are being worked on and will be released before the first setups ship.
17. What is the average response time to emails and pm's?
I try to get back to emails and pm's within 24 hours. This is a side job for me so occasionally I get caught up in normal life and it may take a bit longer to respond.
18. What are the differences between 1.6 and 1.8 setups.
The only difference is the manifold. The turbo, downpipe, mid pipe, and axle backs are the same on the NA miata. So when you want to install a 1.8 engine later on all you need is the 1.8 manifold.
Introducing the MKTurbo oil line kit. The oil line kit will come with a -4an feed line and restrictors, -8an drain line, a tee block and fittings to bolt in at the oil pressure sender port on the block, drain fitting for the oil pan, and the input and outputs for the turbo. Basically everything you need to oil the turbo is included except for the drill bit and tap needed to tap your oil pan. The AN lines and fitting are all Aeroquip and covered in fire sleeve, they are locally made at a hydraulic shop. Price shipped is going to be $175 for the continental US.
