Default FS : 1989 Mazda 323 GTX, Rare Turbo AWD Rally Car for the street

Just saw this on NASIOC, no affiliation. Not free, like Splittime's GTX but, decent none the less.

I didn't put it in the car f/s section because I didn't feel like filling in all those boxes.

Its quite overprice in my opinion. Cracked transmission case leaking oil, been wrecked and rebuilt, etc. A motor built like that is pointless in this car since you' will shred gears if you actually try and use it.

i believe the b6t put out 163 stock?( im guessing his 130 is to the wheels so its probably still 160ish at the crank? or maybe he detuned it for better mpg, haha

It was more like 132hp stock. 130 at the wheels would be an improvement over stock

Guys... I did 165/152 at the wheels on a mustang dyno at 14psi. It's a competent car. Turbo is TINY on these things

That says nothing about the one for sale though... I would not bother building a motor on one with the weak transmission. $5500 for any GTX seems high to me, but who knows what the market will bear.... and the suby nuts might just be willing to pay more for retro awd.

And mine wasn't free... but I am only in 1500 including an entire spare drivetrain from a donor car

My brother paid $700 bucks for his and it was in WAY better shape.

He originally bought it for parts sight unseen, and when he got it home it was pretty mint.

He did a garage paint job and put some rims on it and the car turned out pretty nice.

I'd say that car is worth $2000 on a good day, it probably has way more problems than the seller is suggesting.

This is actually my first post here.

I've owned two of these. One of which I did a decent build on, and it was pretty quick.
At 16psi, 3in exhaust, FMIC, chipped ecu, upgraded clutch and a few other mods it ran a 14.3 @96mph in the 1/4 mile. Thats without a launch.

I sold my first one, which was rotted for $800. My second one that was rust free and basically ready to go I got $4k for.

They are rare, and great little sleepers.

The skirt package is very rare, and the car looks to be in decent overall shape. If he's set on $5k, I highly doubt he'll see that. With a cracked transmission unfortunately the car isnt worth much at all. Its really only valuable to someone with a spare transmission.

Ive actually been looking for another one of these, but this is a little over my budget.

Are those transmissions difficult to source?

Yes, very.

Only 1200 of these cars were brought to north america in 1988. And the transmissions are a weak point for these cars. So finding someone with a spare transmission is a headache. Usually what people end up doing is swapping the BPT with the gtr (JDM 323 AWD) motor/trans into it.
