I'm too poor to buy it, but I plan to get one eventually.

Why did you take it out ?

Yep tha'ts why I took it out.

I run a 5 speed in my 300+ rwhp ubercharged autocross car. For years people had been asking me how I could do that without breaking the trannys. I didn't know but was glad I didn't. I put the twin disc in and broke the first tranny after 6 runs. I had changed brands/viscosity of transmission oil at the same time and thought that might have been the issue. I installed another tranny and went back to the lightweight shock proof oil. That transmission broke on the second run.

I went back to my old clutch/flywheel setup (old FM supersized happy meal) which is a sprung hub single disc clutch, and have done about 20 runs with no issues.

I still don't fully understand why I was having an issue. The transmissions were failing just about the time I hit peak torque (~250 ft/lb) under straight line acceleration in second gear. No shift load or clutch dropping involved. the best theory I can come up with is some kind of weird harmonic being produced by my engine that gets transmitted more effectively to the transmission via the solid hubs.

Lots of people run this clutch with absolutely no problems. My mileage varied.

I am pretty sure others have been past that power level with the 949 clutch, I just don't recommend it on MY MOTOR with a 5 speed. Most people will tell you to dump the 5 speed way before you get to 300 rwhp anyway.

Chris, I'm afraid there are a lot of twin plate clutch tire kickers out there.

Okay, I am done traveling for a while so I can answer questions and do the shipping for whoever wants this.

It is back up for sale, If you PM or Post "I will take it", I will expect you to mean it. No hard feelings or trying to slam anyone who has posted before, but this is a smokin' deal. If it doesn't sell here, I will post it elsewhere next week. Last chance for someone from MT to get a heck of a deal.

Does the 5-speed still hold after the 20 runs or does need regular replacements despite the FM supersized happy meal ?
