Default MiataRoadster 3.3:1 ring & pinion group buy thru Feb. 28th

I'm running a group buy to manufacture differential gear sets in a 3.3:1 ratio which is not available from any other source.

The group buy price is USD $750 plus USPS Priority Mail shipping, $20 in US, $75 international.

This price is based upon an order of at least 40 orders. If I get substantially more than 40 orders, the price could go down.

As of January 16, I have 23 paid orders and I'm accepting payments through February 2015.

The shipping date would be about four months from when I place the order with the manufacturer.

When we’re closer to the ship date, I’ll offer optional parts and services that can be ordered as separate purchases from the initial order for the gear set. Shipping could be combined with the gears, at additional cost to the prices above, depending on the size and weight of what is ordered.

The gear manufacturer can provide upgrades like shot peening and WPC Treatment. I can supply genuine Mazda components (bearings, seals, input flange/harmonic dampener, etc.), ARP fastener kits, machined billet Stainless Steel "crush tube," reinforcement saddle caps, and YellowBox speedo calibrator (NB only).

Please visit my store for more details and ordering information.

If you have any questions, please email me at Bill@MiataRoadster.com

Thanks!

Bill

Note: This chart compares various final drive ratios and transmissions:

So this is happening at $750 for sure, and additional orders over 40 may lower the price? Just want to confirm how I am understanding this...

Wait a minute Bill.

You said, and i'll quote it.
If we can’t attract at least 16 buyers to get back up to 40 by 1/31/15, on 2/1/15, I'll refund everyone in full.
If by the 31st we don't have enough buyers, i want my money back.

Taken from the link

If I don’t get 40 paid orders by the group buy close date, I’ll offer those who’ve paid these options:

1) pay a higher price
2) take more time to seek at least 40 buyers
3) take a refund

This is tempting...

So you have found a supplier that can meet the quality requirements and the delivery estimation is time is unlikely to get pushed back more due to finding a new supplier?

Any updates on this? Like posted previously, originally group buy was to end on 2/1. I now assume it has been extended to 2/28? How many people are we at now?

?
"through February 2015" = 2/28/15

Still looking for buyers to meet 40 orders. If you're seriously interested, participate and make it happen.

I have 23 orders as of 2/3/15.

We need to keep those and add 17 more.

Spread the word if you want this to happen.

If this doesn't pan out by the end of this month, that's it, I'm refunding everyone and throwing in the towel.

[EDIT]: To clarify, yes, if we were to get over 40 paid orders by the end of this month, there would be potential for lowering the unit price (as explained in my store, linked above). But given where we are now, we'll be lucky to get up to 40.[/EDIT]

No, it is not "for sure."

We need 40 paid orders at the $750 price to place an order with the manufacturer.

At this point, including myself, there are 23 orders.

This has been dragging on way too long (sorry) and if there aren't 17 lurkers willing to put their money down, it's not going to happen for anyone.

There are higher priced options for fewer people, but based on the survey I did of the current participants, there aren't enough people willing to pay the higher price to make it happen.

So this is it: 25 days left to get 17 paid orders.

First off... Bill, thank you for putting the unbelievable time and effort into getting this under way and following through with it as the days/months/years go on.

I'm in with the paid orders as well and anyone seeing this shouldn't hesitate at all to jump in. This is a one-off part and the more people get on with this the more available it will become in the future.

Don't be shy, send bill the money and get yourself an amazingly driveable miata under all conditions. I can't see any reason why anyone from a hyper miler to a racer wouldn't be interested in these as it should completely transform the vehicle.

Lets do this!

Default 24 days left...

As of today, 2/4/15, I have 23 paid orders but at least 40 orders are needed to get gears made at the $750 price point.

If this group buy doesn't pan out by the end of this month, I'm throwing in the towel on the project and refunding everyone who's already paid.

If you've been on the fence lurking, now's the time commit to placing an order.

If you're one of those who's already ordered, spread the word among your peers if you want this to happen!

Details are at MiataGears.com

Thanks,

Bill

I thought I'd throw this out there in hopes of it pushing a few folks over the top. I discussed it with Bill, so I'm not stepping on any toes.

For those buying the 3.3 gearset, I'd be happy to offer a full gauge set with a correctly scaled speedometer for the standard price ($129).

Rescaling the speedo is usually 30-45 minutes of design work. It depends on which final drive your car originally came with, so not all speedometers will be the same. I'll give everyone in this group buy a full hour of design time on the house and included with the purchase of a set of gauges. Use the hour to do, well, anything. Rescale the speedometer, add logos, change background colors - you name it.

The only condition is that you have to be part of this group buy and it has to be successful.

Default ONE WEEK LEFT!

OK, people, last call.

Since this thread was posted, two people asked for refunds and two new people placed orders, so we’re still at 23 orders.

We need to find at least 17 new orders to get back up to at least 40 orders.

I thought there was a market for these gears less finite than 23 people in the entire world, but maybe I was wrong.

If you can think of anyone with deep pockets who’d be interested in buying 17 gears, send them my way!

I wish I had the funds to invest, but I have my fingers in other pies.

If you’d still like to see this happen, it behooves you to promote this wherever you can in the next week via email, forums, Facebook, etc.

Here are links to my Facebook page, my store, and forum threads:

Miata.net

Mazda-speed.com

MazdaRoadster.net

If anyone is a member of ClubRoadster.net or other forums not listed above, get the word out!

I encourage you to post your support on my above threads, Facebook, and any other media that you frequent to see if we can make this happen!

If I don’t get those 17 orders by 2/28, I’m pulling the plug and processing refunds on 3/1, as I promised.
