How about simply cutting/grinding a semi-circular relief in the heat shield that attaches to the valve cover so that you can get a finder in there to pull out a complete dipstick. Almost right where the half of your ellipse covers the shield, but a bit closer to the motor and perhaps a bit deeper.

Damn that setup is sexy. Sounds like you got enough suggestions on the dip stick. Man those heat shields look awesome. I hate to jinx myself, but my 99' has the original unbroken dipstick. Probably worth something seeing how rare it is...

I'm not doing a thing to modify those heatshields myself. They are too thick and too pretty. I would be committing an assault against BEGi.

The nature of the thread was semi-joking. It does suck that the dipstick is tough to get to as I won't be able to check oil level when I'm filling up at the gas station (which is my typical custom), but I know I'm clever enough to adapt and overcome.

Pat, seeing how the OE dipstick is about $18 new, I'd say that your used one is worth maybe a Zagnut Bar. ****, go ahead and break it so it feels like it belongs with its brotheren.

For gods sake man, sack up. A saber saw and a round file, and perhaps a carbide bur and hand drill, are all you need. If you take your time and do a good job it will look like Corky designed and executed it himself.

And besides, as they come from BEGi those heatshields could use a good scratch removal and polish. They should look like chrome, not raw aluminum.

Hell, I've got the same shields but didn't have the brains to show them any respect. Drilled holes and used bolts and washers to fasten heat shield cloth to them. (worked great on the intake but the ones around the mani burned and melted as they get too hot) Bent them with crescent wrenches. Bloody fingerprints baked on them. Dirt, scratches, gouges, etc. Seeing those new ones makes me want to take some fine sandpaper and make mine pretty again.

Personally the brushed finish they come with looks tough and right. Last thing I want is some polished aluminum under the hood screaming RICE-boy.

I'm going to look at doing the JB weld extension idea. Would look better than the hunk of wire on mine.

The BEGI S4 simply looks your oil level in the face and frightens it into reading full.

I would hose clamp a piece of black thick fuel hose to it. Cut it off smooth. And at the top, I would push a chrome valve stem cap in the hole of the hose. It wouldn't be very noticable and you can decied what length you want.

A skull would be cool. That is unless you want a unicorn in there. LOL

Better yet. Use some -3 or -4AN braided hose you have in the same fashion. It will hold up to the heat better.

Maybe I'm just wierd, but I can't remember the last time I checked the oil in any of my cars. With modern motors today, I can't imagine a healthy engine losing even 1/2 quart. Fill, drive 3-5k, drain. Repeat.

I like to check my oil to see if it smells like gas and to see how black it is. It doesn't loose oil i just like checking the quality of the oil that is in it. Should be able to tell if I have excess blowby and whatnot by the oil as well. Motor is solid though so it's really pointless.

I don't know what happened or why, but my 1994 burned about 2 quarts of gtx 10w30 over 2000 miles. I put rotella 10w40 and it hasn't burned a drop. I always check that crap.
