Default oil in cold side intercooler pipe ?

while i was changing the oil today i noticed some oil on the outside of my cold side intercooler pipe. i pulled the whole thing out and found a buncha oil in the bottom of the pipe.....what could be causing this ? could my turbo be in need of a rebuild ?

You either need a rebuild or you have tons of blowby from the crankcase going through your turbo. That is if you have the crankcase breather connected to your intake before the turbo. I don't know anywhere else it could come from.

turbo seal or blowby...

does your pcv close when you blow into it?

how's the drain line? I assume you have a GReddy kit, stock return line?

a turbo's compressor seal can have oil pass through it without the need for a rebuild, if other things causing it are to blame.

im actually running a catch can right now, from the pcv and from the breather location. so im pretty sure its not blow by. its not a huge accumulation, but it also seems to make it out my hks bov. (pulled the bov and cleaned it out too)

checked the drain line too. (im running stock greddy location) its still all downslope no kinks or anything.

also, not sure if this will help figure out whats wrong. but i think i posted it on thie forum a few months ago when i first installed my catch can. (it was installed on the pcv and the breather location, but the can didn't have a filter on it so it was pressurizing the crankcase and i was burning assloads of oil)

You should return your PCV side to OEM specs, as in use the little vacuum line and a known working PCV valve. Just use the catch can on the breather side.

so both the pcv line and breather line go into the catch can....and then no where else?

i blame poor oil drainage...

return the pcv line to the intake manifold (confirm working valve)

plumb the breather line into the catch can, then into the intake, report back.

roger, ill change it around tomorrow morning and give you guys a heads up.

the catch can is vented right now. unlike before....

so i should go from the breather line to the catch can then the catch can to the intake nipple after the afm ?

I have the exact same problem. Is there a section on how to drill and tap the oilpan?

it's what i'd do, and leave the pcv side like oem. otherwise you have no vacuum in the crackcase, even out of boost.

I installed my starion intercooler kit, and my cold side has an oil build up. The thing about it is that when I had the JRSC crossover I didn't have any buildup at all.

When I first drive my car and its cold if I rev to 3k the oil pressure goes up to the 90psi mark. Could that be causing oil to blow past the oil seals in the turbo? My drain is -10AN line and tapped to the pan and it is all downhill. My PCV valve is stock on the intake manifold and the breather side is tapped into the "U" pipe after the AFM before the turbo. Should I replace my PCV valve just to make sure?

-4AN braided stainless. There is no oil in the hotside pipe, just the cold side.

if -4an, then I'd think you should try a restrictor.

but pull the intake pipe and verify the oil isn't coming in from the breather line itself first.

-4AN is the size of line and fittings.

if you're still getting a little it's fairly normal....could be remains stuck in the IC....could still be blow-by, this is where the catch can comes into play.

-3AN is pretty damn close to the stock greddy oil feed. -4AN is quite a bit larger.
