Default $10 air filter heat shield

Figured that shielding the air filter a little (it's not an enclosed box, I know) from the turbo/manifold/post-rad hot air and scavenging the cooler air from above the rad sort of like FM's intake was worth $10 of material. Don't know if it'll make a real difference, but it was fun to make anyway.

And, yes I know my filter is mangled. It was crushed by the old hood lift rod once.

Yup. The bigger RX-7 AFM didn't help any either.

You don't need to remove anything to get it to work. I had this setup with my old ****'s starion IC kit and everything else (AC/PS) still in the car. I used a silicone coupler from the turbo to the AFM and then a smaller K&N filter with a slight downard angle. (K&N part #SN-2590). See pic below of the old setup.

is the RX-7 AFM off a NA or turboII car? My brother has an '87 RX-7 that he is about to put a LT1 in. He is going to let me snag the AFM from it, but i wanted to make sure I should get the one from the NA or Turbo car. Also where did you pick up the coupler for holding it onto the turbo(what size also)?

do you think stripes IC kit he is working on will let me/us keep A/C and PS and will let me run a K&N filter like that in front of it

Not sure which car my RX-7 AFM from. Here's a link with a lot more info on the whole rx-7 afm thing: http://members.aol.com/solomiata/airflowmtr.html

IIRC coupler was 2.25" to 2.5". Not completely sure as it's been while since I bought it at a local speed shop. Just measure the diameter off the turbo and the diameter of your stock AFM for exact sizing.

As for the front filter/afm setup with Stripes' kit, I can't answer as I have a modified version with a clocked turbo. However, from the pics of Mach929's car, it looks like it probably would not work. If we get a chance, maybe I'll try to swap my setup into Mach929's to check for fitment.

Hey man that is sweet! I really like your turbo being clocked down. Do you have any pics of how you are routing your IC piping? I have been thinking of switching my setup to s/thing like yours.

Thanks
