Default Finally boosted!

So, 4psi is awesome! I have a 93 with 183,000 miles, greddy manifold, 15g turbo, greddy downpipe, greddy type rs blowoff valve, 29x7x3 intercooler, custom piping, stock exhaust, and had the AFM removed

Anyways, it's such a wonderful feeling having a little bit of power now. I can almost hang with my friend in his 93 civic with a b18c1 with head work, integra type-r cams, intake, header, and exhaust.

I can't wait to up the boost to 7 psi, get a new downpipe, exhaust, and get it tuned properly. I think it'll be awesome

29x7x3??? You HAVE to let us see pics of that! Also, install the manual boost controller, if you didn't already. Even if you leave it on the lowest possible boost setting, it will spool up the turbo noticably faster.

That turbo will work for you for a long time to come.
Enjoy!

I guess I should have said that's the total dimensions ... which would make the core ~24" across. I mounted it right to the bumper support which puts it right in the mouth of the RB type II bumper I have. The charge piping is noticeably cooler by the throttle body, even after a hard run. I haven't looked at the datalogs yet, but the intake temperatures can't be too hot because the charge piping is just warm to the touch.

I'll put the boost controller on tonight and see what happens ^_^

yeah I assumed they were total dimensions, not core dimensions. I would think your core is more like 22" wide. It's a full 4" or so wider overall than my intercooler, and also 1" taller. Did you re install your mouth shround and undertray? Do you have A/C?

At 6 psi (assuming 2 psi IC loss) that turbo isn't making any heat. It starts making heat around 8-9 psi, but it doesn't really even get hot until at least 13-14 psi.

My miata had some ... damage when I got it initially. The undertray was basically useless, so I got rid of it long ago :P I really need to make a shroud for the radiator because it's getting close to no air going through it. In fact, I'm going to fit a Koyo half-size radiator in tonight with a 1500cfm fan on it and I'll see what I can do about that shroud and maybe a scoop ^_^

As far as the mouth shroud, it doesn't need one because the intercooler sits basically right behind the opening. I'm sure a little ducting would help, but I'm not going to worry about it at these low boost levels.

I have no A/C or powersteering, btw. The car isn't my daily driver, so I figure it'll be fine without that stuff ^_^

I recently switched my turbo'd miata from being my daily driver to more of just a track car. it's a wonderful feeling when you know you don't need to have it running by monday morning, and that if it breaks, oh well.

I've got a slight thread jack though. Ben you mentioned the manual boost controller, I have one from FM, only running my setup at about 6.5psi, although I want more like 7.5-9psi. should I keep the boost controller where it is and shorten the wastegate rod, or change the boost controller, leaving the WG rod where it is?
