BEGi Intake Tube
The Greddy kit suffers from a little hesitation just before entering boost. Corky Bell wondered if the small intake tube between the turbo and AFM were part of the problem, so he built a new intake tube. It's similar to the Greddy piece, but is constant diameter from end to end, unlike the Greddy which tapers down in its mid section.
So I got a BEGi intake tube, put it in, and went for a ride. Installation is easy, all you need to do is loosen a the clamps on either end of the old tube, remove the breather, pull the old tube out, slip the BEGi tube in, replace the breather, and tighten the clamps. My clamps were a little cranky, but it was still a 10 minute job. Or, you could be like me and start the car before replacing the breather tube, and enjoy a nice vacuum leak, then wonder how one could be so dumb.
So after getting everything buttoned up, and maneuvering the afm around so that it sits low enough for the hood to close, I went for a spin. A hump coupler at the intake tube/afm junction would probably be a good idea. The goal of reducing any hesitation at 2" vac and through 2 psi was certainly acheived. There is less of a time delay between application of throttle and transition to over atmospheric pressure, and feels less laggy when squeezing on more power.
Overall, big to Corky Bell and BEGi for a good piece.

Dunno. There's not much to it, don't see how it would be hard for them to produce, especially when you look at some of the spectacular fabrication that comes out of the shop. I suspect that we'll hear from Stephanie sometime Monday.
Next time I see myfonti, we'll put it on his car for another opinion.

I appreciate the BEGI engineering concept, however, depending on the price this may be one piece I pass on. I mean I did dyno tests to see how my 3" straight intake tube with KN filter compared to the greddy pipe with no filter. Exactly the same. Brain can post the dynos if you all need some numbers.

That being said, you'd probably get a similar benefit from just running your AFM straight off the turbo for no 180 degree turn of the incoming airflow. Or no AFM and just a straight pipe off the turbo like a velocity stack.

Yes, that little bastard is close to coming out. I *just* received an unopened, unmolested 1.6 afm to compare its output vs the one that's been on the car. I'm curious why Joe's afm's voltage output is different than mine under certain conditions, so figured getting another afm couldn't hurt.
The plans to create the pipe went into motion before I had the EMU. One of the reasons why I want to put it on Marlon's car. Marlon, you readin' this?

I was talking with Corky for a bit about this one, and the whole point of the piece was not to make more power necessarily (it would be a nice side benefit) but instead to improve the transition from vac to boost by inproving the airflow into the compressor. Not sure if this would necessarily show up on a dyno. It's more to improve the feel of the turbo transitioning into boost by creating better pre-compressor flow.
That being said, you'd probably get a similar benefit from just running your AFM straight off the turbo for no 180 degree turn of the incoming airflow. Or no AFM and just a straight pipe off the turbo like a velocity stack.

Brad's ride does transition into boost VERY smoothly, although I never noticed a problem on my other friends completely stock greddy kit. I'd really have to drive them back to back.
And Brad, I remember you commenting the it didn't feel the same when you did the few pulls with the intake tube, I remember thinking the pull seemed to take longer...however we were both shocked to see the same HP. I'm sure it DOES effect drivability.

I know there are a thousand other variables BUT in the two datalogging/beat the car up sessions I did yesterday, on ALL WOT pulls I got boost spikes to just over 12 PSI. With the old tube on, I saw some spikes in the mid 10s and a couple times like 11.1
I can not account for the extra spike psi.
Pull from last week:
WOT, 3rd gear
10 psi @ 5100 rpm
10.5-11.1 psi @ 5100-5500
10 psi to redline
Pull from yesterday:
WOT, 3rd gear
10 psi @ 5000
11-12 psi @ 5100-5500
10 psi 5500-redline
Really now what I need to do is open the exhaust to bring that spike down another 1k rpm. Would be bad *** if I got a small boost spike at torque peak.
I can not account for the extra spike psi.

Could have bumped the mbc somehow, but spinning it is pretty tough with the signal hose attached
Might be related, might not be. That's why I didn't/won't claim that it helps make power. I will claim that it helps transition to boost.
