And there was boost, and it was good. To the tune of 207whp at 8(?) psi on a Dynapack. (Setup is in my signature)

There's allot of tuning left to do, and I will be pestering all your smart ******* for help. My mechanic builds Spec Miata's but hasn't done much boost tuning, so it was a learning experience all around.

But the important thing is the car runs, It made the 140 mile trip back home without incident, and it's back in my driveway, so I'm a happy fella.

I'm off to Watkins Glen in the morning, but I should have some data logs from the dyno on Monday, and I'll start doing some street tuning next week.

Many thanks to this forum. It made the build allot easier.

Crap, if this is 1.6, I'll kill myself.

Chris, you ever run with SCDA in the N.E.? Need more turbo miatas!

Don't shoot! It's a 1.8l 95 R Package. Feel better now?

I have not run with SCDA. I'm doing NHMS at the end of the month with COMSCC. And hopefully will be able to do 3 or 4 events next year.

Awesome. It only took me 10,000 posts.

It amazes me that we can basically re-engineer these cars and they can make a long-distance journey. However, I'm the kind pessimist.

It's a used GT2560R Voodoo kit, the newer one with the nice silicon intercooler pipes, and a MSPNP, with RX7 550's.

I'll snap some pics eventually. Engine bay needs tidying up.

Yes, bone stock 110k engine.

I drove it home from my mecanics shop on Wednesday, and it's been sitting since then. It's got a bad case of boost creep, wherein it goes right to 5psi, then creeps to about 10 at high rpm. I only went WOT on the highway in 5th, and 5psi is nothing to write home about. I have the new wastegate setup on order from FM. A steady 12psi should transform this thing.

First, relocate the tube feeding the WG from the nipple on the compressor to a new nipple which you'll install somewhere after the intercooler.

If that doesn't work, you may simply be shooting for too little boost relative to your wastegate port.

Tried that, didn't do much. Also tried fiddlin' with preload, and no matter what we did, the boost would rise with rpm. On the dyno, the boost plot was pretty much a solid 45* rising line.

'Splain me, I don't understand.

When I called Flyin Miata, I was explaining that I had boost creep and was rattling off the particulars of my setup. The tech stopped me, and asked if I had the wastegate with the adjustable rod. When I told him I did, he explained that they've updated the design, because that setup doesn't have enough stroke to open the flapper fully. I'm hoping that's the case, and the new WG & bracket assy will resolve my issue. The parts should be here Friday, so expect either a or a from me by Saturday.

Well, 8 PSI isn't much on a 2560. The less boost you're trying to achieve, the more gas has to flow out through the wastegate. Some people have found that by porting the wastegate path (much like porting a head) this problem is reduced or eliminated.

Sounds entirely plausible. FM would know better than anyone this history on those kits. The practical effect of a too-short stroke on the WG actuator would be indistinguishable from a restrictive wastegate flow path.

I get it now. The too-short stroke combined with the 6psi can = massive fail. Why they spec'd such a low psi can is beyond me, unless it was to help the 'thrifty' customers running band-aids and no intercoolers.

I want to see my boost gauge go straight to 9 or 10 psi and stay flat. Once that's achieved I'll either try and preload it for 12, or install my Profec.

I'm already signed up for NHMS at the end of the month, and I'm thinking 9psi would be a safe starting point for running the car at the track.
