Default used hks 1.8 1995 kit

hi guys ,

my name is michelle and im from the UK , this seems like a good forum , so i hope you dont mind me joining up and asking some really thick chick questions :gay:

i have recently bought a used hks kit from a local car dealer for £300 so i can complain too much

my car is a 1995 eunos roadster 1.8 with 30k miles on the clock

the kit comes with everything thing i need all bar the ecu piggyback thingy , my brother reckons my engine will explode if i fit it as it is ?

can anyone give advice as to what other bits a pieces i will need ? and also a rough idea of the cost

I forget what comes in the HKS kit. Can you give a rundown of what you have

As i remember... the HKS pretty much has the same basic components of the Greddy, which most of us here started out with and has no issue what so ever with engine blowing up. hence, all others has explore more power from their stock powerplant which percautionary is advised.
- Garrret turbo (water/oil turbo)
- Downpipe
- Little Sub-con that's piggy back.

I do not think you have anything to worry about, great find and you will enjoy your HKS kit as much as we do with our Greddy.

As Slidin Miata pointed about, look throughly on the link and you will be telling you brother what to do next.

Are you saying the mini f-con that is supposed to come with it is missing? You will need some fuel management then. Think BEGi or Vortec FMU, or a simple piggy like emanage, powercard, voodoo box, or f-con (if you can get them in the UK). You will want to do something about the ignition timing as well.

Start (like the greddy) with relieve cuts on the manifold.
The HKS is not known to crack, but better save then sorry...

Costs?? FREE!!!

Everything you need to know is on the greddy faq.

To manage the turbo: retard timing to 6 degrees (instead of 10)
Run a fuel management unit like the Vortech or the begi.(the HKS FCON is not a nice unit anyway)
Monitor max boost (must not exceed 6psi)

COSTS: 50-100 dollar (ebay,or here)

The turbo is plug n play , very easy setup, a bit more work then replacing the exhaust manifold.

Be sure the turboset is a 1.8 (pics will be handy here..)

As you have a 95 you could run into 1 problem , the oil adapter... It might be not available on your engine... (95 is the year they stopped putting the oil port there... You might be lucky)
Look on the passenger side (right hand drive)
(exhaust side) down at the dipstick (where it enters the block).
At the left side (10cm) there must be 2 bolds (1 oil and 1 water) oil is the smaller one... If it is not there , order a oil line from flyingmiata.(EDIT)Could be that the oil suply is disigned for the cold side, this eliminates this problem...

COST if not lucky: 100dollar

Oil return.
HKs returns the oil through the dipstick... If you did not get the HKS dipstick, just tap the oil pan. order also @ FM

COSTS 50 dolllar (drill , tap, oil return nipple)

But show us some pics of the enginebay oil port and the whole kit.
(i know how a complete set loooks like).
Be happy to help you out.

Are you handy enough to replace the manifold yourself?? (if not, add 100-200 dollar)

Hey Greddy, would you have the manual for the fcon mini?

I have installed mine (around 2 months now) it was workng on another mx5 and i haven't tuned it yet. I just copied the wiring that was spliced from the other car.
I would like to know if i have everything in the right way

I guess so since it isn't dead yet :gay:

It's just that the after sales support in Oz is non existent for HKS

If not i guess ill just have to enjoy it as is (better get the timing back to -6, instead of -8)

no i don't have the manual from the hkc fcon...
sorry... i was told it only intercepts the temp sensor thus alowing only 4 psi...
Upgrade to a stand alone...

Timing on 8 degrees with no pinging... Don't change it.
A little pinging?? get it at 6 degrees!!!
