manifold comparison
Is there any point in some kind of manifold comparison?
there are a lot of turbo manifolds out there and personally think it would be cool to do a dyno test with the same car and different turbo manifolds.
same engine same boost settings and ecu tune same dyno etc.
Of course this may be something only a magazine might do and I dont know of any miata magazine!

I was thinking about doing this for the trackspeed kit to bench against artech (top mount ram horn).
I just can't seem to get a price for just the manifold and downpipe, versus just the manifold or entire kit.
I'd have the downpipe adapted to fit the existing exhaust and it'd literally just be swapping two components and slight modification to charge pipe.

I have the following turbo's that I plan on testing V-Band Tial GT2781, EFR 6258 t2 flange, 2554, T3 china charger. I was planning on testing the following types of manifolds with as many of those turbo's as possible. Lowmount absurdflow ramhorn, mkturbo top mount log, TSE manifold, TacoTaco 1.8 manifolds, lowmount AC/PS absurdflow.

Unless you change just 1 thing at a time and do controlled back to back tests, I think the results will be nearly worthless.
I've not seen huge changes between different manis on a miata, probably because a miata BP usually doesn't breathe well, doesn't make crazy power, and usually responds better to freeing up the flow on the intake side than exhaust.
...But it'd be cool to see, thats for sure. I've seen a couple tests over the years, I think Bell did at least 1, and it was something like 5-8hp difference and slightly better curves on a long tube vs a log, and the "short runner response" that people typically advertise with the short runner manis can't really be seen on a dyno plot....

My TacoTaco 1.8 manifolds came in yesterday. I did not noticed until this morning. So I will be taking a look at them this afternoon when I get home.

Curious to see how those work out.
The design couldn't be any more moronic.
I mean, seriously, a character from idiocracy could have designed better runners, but whatever, at least they made a cast 1.8 finally
I cannot comprehend why they didn't just change the bolt patter on the old 1.6 and call it a day

I ended up not going back to the garage last night and playing with the manifolds. The T2 and T3 are the same except for how the holes for studs are drilled. The biggest thing I noticed was that the front 2 and rear 2 stock studs are not long enough. You would either need to use bolts there or get longer studs. I am hoping tonight I get some more time to spend bolting a turbo on and testing fitment of them. I think the downpipe will need a very tight 90 degree bend.
