Default Gas smell.

Ever since the install ive had a small gas smell after driving around a bit.

Do you think my a/f are rich? Im guessing thats what the "gas smell" would be.

If yall think im rich i can try turning up the boost a psi or two and see if it makes the smell go away, let me know what you think.

turn the car to ON.

jump F/P and GND in the diag. box.

take a wrench to the fuel return line and clamp down.

watch as fuel sprays all over...fix.

Im pretty sure the smell is more of really gassy smelling exhaust fumes is why i think it is a rich mixture.

So, you are saying when the fuel pump is on its leaking out of the return line?

Im sorry, im trying to comprehend what you are saying here:

Jump the fuel pump and ground to a power source.

Take a wrench to the fuel return line, clamp it down.

See where the fuel sprays out.

Fix where it sprays.

Thats what i got from it, im going to take a look right now.

Do you have a BOV venting to atmosphere? After a hard run my car smells like gas because of it. Just for a short while and not that bad, but you said yours was after driving. Not sure if its the case, but just a thought.

HMMMM, that could be a very good point.

Yeah its VTA, and the vent is upwards pointing towards the hood.

It is a very feint gas smell, and usually goes away pretty soon- if i cant find a leak anywhere ill just assume thats it.

When my car had an exhaust leak at the manifold and was running super rich I could smell the gas from the exhaust.

Yeah, im pretty sure theres no exhaust leak. When i did have one(where the turbo met the mani) it was very loud, and boost came super late.

When i hit boost it sounds more like a sportbike, high pitched and really clean sounding.

I couldn't really hear my exhaust leak. But I did spool slower and wasn't able to boost very high (7-8psi).

Hmm im doubting it is an exhaust leak, but you got me worried =/.

Perhaps ill put a baloon or a condom over the bov and after i fill it up smell it =P.

Ahaha that would be too funny.

I vote for condom... take a picture to post when people ask "safe boost" questions.

Ummm... how could the smell of gas come from the BOV? It's up stream of the injectors and throttle body. Any of the air it vents shouldn't contain gasoline. It should be venting anything from the TB to the turbo.

Unless of course it's an Australian model and runs backwards.

I have the same problem....I can't run the heater on fresh air....recycled only.

not sure where the fumes are coming from but very interested in what you would find out.

it's exhaust fumes not raw gas fumes.

SAE, did you remove the gasket/weather-stripping between your hood and cowl, by chance?

Can't think of any other way fumes are getting into your HVAC blower.

Yeah, I've been living with the smell for months. It gets old when you smell like a gas station wherever you go. :(
