Default new guy thinking about miata

Hi all:

I was wondering i'm thinking of buying a miata to modify and I am in CA in greddy the only fi kit that has a carb sticker. I did a search on carb but couldn't find a definitive answer. Anyway I just had a hell of a time passing smog on my car and don't want that hassle again so I would need the carb sticker.

thanks in advance for any help or answers

As of right now, I do believe so. FM is going to try and get theirs carb certified, but that also costs money, so think about that, if it goes through, I bet the cost of the kits goes up. Get a greddy, work the gremlins out on it, and go from there. The kit is capable of more power than you would think for the money, and the carb sticker. The carb paperwork is in the archives section if you look there.

www.bellengineering.net has a couple of carb approved kits for the 1.8. Not sure for the 1.6, but worth looking at.

I am pretty confident there was never a V10, just a V12 and later a V8 in a lower cost version.

no it's the v8 version I chose the v8 version due to the multiple forced induction possiblites and the fact that v8 came with almost as much hp and tq as the heavier v12. ofcourse being an e31 every part is highly expensive and this is not a daily driver which is why i'm looking at a miata that i could work on and still drive to work. more of a sleeper no custom paint interior etc.

whoops, yeah meant v12.

you'd love a FIed miata. buy one for $1000, put ten times that into the engine and suspension and watch all your buddies drool.

I can just vouch that take caution thinking that the kit is SMOG legal. Yes Greddy say it is, and they are 'supposed' to supply a sticker accordingly. However, there may be SMOG shops that do not recognize this and no matter what paperwork you show them they will look at your car like it has the plague.
How do I know? - My Greddy is used and I did not get any sticker (new ones have also been known not to get one), and there is no way that any supplier will give me a sticker without a receipt. So I am in the process of taking it off to SMOG NA.
Also if you read about on here I am not the only one that has had trouble with this.
In the end its your call.... good luck

Greddy is smog legal...just make sure that you but the kit brand new, and that you recieve the EO sticker with the kit if you are concerned about legality. Also, buy from a shop that does good volume with greddy direct, this will make it easier for them to obtain a sticker apart from a kit should yours not come with one.

Even without turbo...these cars are a blast and cheap to maintain. I can keep up with my firends ~400HP RB20 powered S13 w/suspension and a kaaz diff on our favorite mountain roads with my stock 92 Base(except for 94-95 11lb wheels, and falken azenis 195-60-14).

I suggest that you drive the miata for a while N/A that way you will appreciate the turbo power more and be able to utilize it more effectively.

Just my .02

^ agreed they are just plain fun even without the turbo, and at stock you can really rev to the readline from the lights and shift through the gears - (Redline is the way to all the power) and you can keep up with a lot of cars to the 30-40 mph level which is good about town. It used to make me laugh when I could do that to a Mustang.
Add the turbo and you have to watch out for cops
