I have trouble with traction in 1st gear, whether in a straight line or turning. That's on Kumho v710 and 15psi on a very safe tune. I can get it to break loose in 2nd, but then I'm abusing the car ... which I often do. 1.6 diff is still holding!

There is no way from a ROLL in 1st gear 4psi will break the tires free unless you are on some seriously shitty tires that are treadware rating 2000. Or dumping the clutch while moving.

moving back towards 0* camber will gain you some traction as well ... there's something Lanny never mentioned

i ran 7x17 215/45 r17 and spacers at the rear the tires sucks so if it´s wet you can´t get any traction

and 215/40/16 tires ( i believe... i'd have to go outside to verify, but it's something like that... )..

but the end result is the exact same outside diameter as the stock setup..

and I can't do anything to make these break loose... it corners like it's on rails.. I have no body roll ( stock suspension )..

but watch out for those potholes.... I've already bent one rim.. but it really makes a stand out difference in handling and ride..

just this morning on the way to work i dropped into 2nd and floored it to "merge" around some slowpoke.... car went sideways then forward. whoops.

the tires are the only thing I've changed as of yet...
so my '91 miata is still making the factory 89ish horsepower...

I'm shopping around for a turbo kit that won't kill my bank account, but actually does the job...

How are you guys running your 225/50/15's without a problem???

I had a set on my 15x8's and I was told my fronts were not gonna fit w/o hacking up the inner wheel well up front(and therefor spraying loads of crap all over my engine bay).

See my sig, I've had these dang 15x8's for about a year now, and it's driving me nuts not having them installed!

Maybe your clutch is slipping and you THINK it's tires because, well, we all want to believe in something. I'm running 205s I think... **** I'll have to go look now. They might be 215s. They slip a bit in first when the boost hits but hook up find in second on. I know what you need. A bigger turbo! It's spooling to soon that's the problem. lol

I just got some clean 15's. Gold with chrome lip. Im gonna try and get some 225's for the rear, and 195's???? for the front

Who the **** told you that **** mine rub a little under laod in the front but damn after about 9K miles this problem was fixed, IE it wore down dont listen to hacks at tire stores about that **** put them on yourself and try it out. If it works great if not then look into what you have wrong the most drastic change would be taking our the airbag sensor holder thing wich mine rubbed on for a while, under full laod.

FYI: Toyo makes T1S and T1R in 225/45/15... only mfg I've found to make this size.

Yea, only thing is it was my brother in law who runs and owns a full custom metalworking shop and kinda knows what he's talking about.

damn dude you got some opinion don't you fine ive run mine for quite a while with no ill effects 225-50R15 gforce sports just a hair over 24 inches tall and about 30 lbs totall installed the biggest hurdle i found was tire wieght as it is hard to find a sub 20 lbs tire in that size. glad i have 9.5 lbs rims. Trust me honey put them on and go for a drive your car wont rip of body parts and your world will not come to an end.

Pai, you failed to mention that you've been running mismatched near-bald econo tires. A '92 Geo Metro under half-throttle would light those things up. :gay:

In all seriousness, it's the tires dude. My '99 was putting down 180+ at the wheels at 9psi and 205 T1-Rs worked just fine, even with fairly aggressive launches. Heck, even a set of 195 T1-Rs or Azenis would likely stick well with your GReddy kit at 5psi.

Aesthetics aside, 225s are overkill at sub 200rwhp power levels. Not too mention the fairly significant increase in unsprung weight.

You remember Screamin99, right? IIRC, he was running a 215/40 T1-S when he made his 11.9 pass. The car was dialed back to 12psi at the time (~315hp), but had put down just under 500whp at 24psi.

I think there's a slippery slope with the amount of improvement one will see by running wider and wider tires. At some point it becomes more about judicious throttle modulation than anything else.

With that tired engine boosting 4 pounds, Pai was likely making no more than 120whp. Even decent stock sized tires should have little trouble keeping up with this level of power.
