For as nice as the FM website is, they don't make it very easy to find details/pics/prices for their new turbo manifold. I remember going through this all before, calling, and getting a price - but now I don't have the info anymore.

Does anyone know what the price is?

I'm looking at the BEGI (just under 400, assuming compatible with the FM intercooler (being rubber, it's hard to imagine it won't work)) as well as the BEGI tubular one (surprisingly, not a lot more.)

Really looking at making my own, but still kicking around ideas. The welding I had done some months ago gave out so I want to fix it good this time.

FM will sell any and all of the individual parts to their systems. They don't advertise that though. You gotta call or email for info.

yeah - I'll just have to call them up again, they list most of the intake, and even the elbow from the turbo, but not the manifold. C'est la vie.

The name predates Flyin' Miata by a good margin. Been my name everywhere for everything for a long long time.

Is it all that critical, anyway? I was just hoping that I could get some info on one of these impulse buy manifolds. :-)

Joe pointed out the EDT racing manifold, it looks nice, I'm shocked they don't crack! Certainly no 'direct pulse' going on there. The one for the MX3 looks hot, but the http://www.etdracing.com/miata3.html one seems like high flow and no finesse?

Where'd the FM come from? radio? Radio Free Abe?

Directed Pulse is a trade name. I'd say the ETD is better because it points into the turbo and not into a wall or other runner.

Though I like the whole radio-esqueness of the FM, they are actually just my next couple of initials. Certainly in my top three favorite.

The ETD isn't cheap, and it's definitely in the ballpark of something I could do myself. Has anyone actually used this? I'm curious how they hold up. I'll admit external wastegates hold a certain charm for me right about now in my "15 psi because I have to" mode....

The long runner BEGi unit does at least seem like it keeps pulses from interfering with each other...

As it is, I got a bit of a reprieve as the shop is rewelding it for free (bonus props to Poway Welding and Tool). But I still want to find a more permanent solution than rewelding every 4 months.

$395 for the FM manifold with hardware. I know there have been requests to make all of the individual parts available on the website (hundreds of parts!) and I'm working on it slowly.

The FM intercooler pipes will take a little bit of misalignment, but not that much. They're more rigid than they appear.

Thanks Keith! I was thinking I remembered a nice write up on that before, but I guess the whole page dedicated to it (but unlinked) was all in my head.

As usual, I got a quick answer to my emailed inquiry as well.


Oh, is there any non-EGR versions, and is there an associated price difference?

You can get to the picture page from any page on the FM site by doing the following:
On the left side menu, click on "Turbochargers".
Click on "About our turbo kits".
Click on "Pictures".

There are also lots of pictures of the manifolds under "Technical information from development". That might be the page you're thinking of.

I try to make things as easy to find as possible.

If you want a non-EGR version, we have a plug to cap the ERG fitting.

Have you guys seem many/any failures of the part that you feel ok talking about? I believe BEGi claimed two (no idea the sample size) - one they mention was due to other problems.

I do have to applaud the process of putting it together, I wish the elbow were a free bonus prize with it, the whole thing looks nicely done.

I'm running a 1.6 BEGI manifold and the FM i/c pipes and a china cooler. A little triming of the pipes and everything fit nicely. Very impressed, can't see why you'd bother with metal i/c piping now that FM has developed these.

This manifold is wicked! I'm going to put one on my 2000 SE when I rip of my FMII for a bigger and badder setup. I run ETD manifolds on my last 3 cars including my Honda Race car.

There have been no failures of the new manifold or turbine outlet casting. None.

I don't believe there have been any problems related to the intercooler pipes or the downpipe either. The only parts failure I can think since the redesign of was a turbocharger that had some bad seals.

That's good to hear, very. And they sure do look easier to get on and off. Still M8 hardware, correct? Saves people drilling out their turbo.

Quick question on the intercooler pipes, on my 2k, they seem to shove the lower radiator hose right up against the frame, so far it's not rubbing through, but I am worried about it. Seen any issues there, or did I just plain put it in wrong?



I'll go out on a limb and assume these manifolds all treated you right? You can't always tell what will flow more by looking, that's for sure. Anyway, no breakages, etc?

Well, some of this is moot, the shop who welded it last time is rewelding it for free. But I have a feeling a new manifold is in my future, I somehow don't expect this to last.

But at least it'll go on the car sans EGR port and with M10 hardware, so while it might crack again, at least it won't fall off. :-) And I'll have time to better reflect on the relative strenghts of the various offerings. I will say to first order they are all the same and I do like room to insert my wrench. I'm tempted to thin down the elbow to allow my wrench in on the downpipe I've got (also FM)
