GReddy Timing - Can i push it???
I ordered a Bipes and should get shortly. I didn't retard the timing to 6 yet, as the car is not yet drivable. I am hoping i could have that car up and running this weekend. Could I still enjoy the car without retarding the timing from stock 10 degrees and adding an octane booster and praying for cold weather? Or the chances of detonation too high? Hoping I will not need to mess with the timing if Bipes is installed.
Thanks

Short answer, no. Long answer maybe, but do you want to take the chance? You don't have an I/C right?
Octane booster is crap and does not work as advertised. You have to add a LOT to get even 1 octane point.
If you need to drive the car, wire the wastegate open until the Bipes arrives. You may want to advance your timing with the bipes and just set it aggressively. The advance (14*) will help with off boost response.

tourlene will work better than an octane booster.
only can push timing if no knock is present, even then you might experience inaudible not. knock/ping is the engine killer, so you're skating on thin ice.

It seems that's it better to wait for bipes or actually adjust the timing to recommended 6 deg. Would really suck if the engine would give out after all this work. :gay:
Seems that I am not gonna have access to my car this weekend anyways.
Lil offtopic:
Wasn't able to find copper washers at NAPA, PepBoys or Home Depot.
Pep Boys had washer for oil drain plugs, but nothing in the 10M range. What other stores might have this hard to get item??

I hate Mazda!! Y! Y! Y didn't they turbo Miata from the factory!!!
Greddy is amazing... 5PSI at 6BTDC. Low end torque is amost non-existent, but going to 14BTDC should fix it once the bipes arives. 3K+ RPM = catch me if you can. :-)
Thanks to everyone for their help! More boosting questions to come.

Going more boost than 6psi will require some major modifications that I am not ready for yet.
Defi want to do everything right:
1. be able to stop under more power (Bigger brakes: 1.8 or big brake kit)
2. a decent clutch that can handle more power
3. heavier rear to handle added power.
4. and of course all the power goodies.
Too much $$ for now. I already used up my Xmas and birthday gifts for the next 10 years to get the turbo kit. Wife has different priorities. (Y would anyone want to better the house, when there is a Miata in the garage?? huh? :-) )
Basic 1.6 kit and bipes will have to suffice for now. Might add just few more goodies in coming months: heat shield, free flow exhaust and oil cooler.
