why don't manifold makers use studs like this?

Because the pipes coming into the collector normally do not allow room to slip a bolt into the hole on the manifold side and there is barely enough room for a nut and a wrench on the turbo side

make enough room...or run the bolts through the ports from the inside. It would be a lot easier than to constantly **** with them like I'm going to.

I've never had my manifold to head or manifold to turbo studs come loose. The down pipe ones are another story.

don't know how the thread pitch compares to the Miata, but Toyota exhaust manifold studs for the Supra turbo have a hex pattern machined into the end for separate tightening.
