Default NT-01s are on national back-order, what's our next best option?

I can't seem to get a set anywhere. I have a set of Continentals (Hoosier endurance tire) but I don't know how they'll be on the track. What are some other tires we can run? I want to get at least 7 days on a set and I'd like for them to be sticky, I know I won't get NT-01 quality but I have to run something.

Right now I think my best bet is Hankook C51's. Discuss.

I am using the opportunity to "force" myself into a set of 245/580 hoosiers.

Less grip, supposedly shorter life, and I have to shave them.

Anybody got an Idea how long they are going to be on national backorder? I ordered a set labor day weekend when the local discount tire had a $100 rebate deal but I’m wondering now how long they will have my money before I actually get the tires.

In the mean time I swapped over a set of my RA-1 daily driver tires to track duty. Now I don’t have any decent street tires. I did manage to set a new personal best with them on the track as well so they work pretty good.

I also have a set of 225/45/15 Hoosier Wet H2o’s on order. Doesn’t hurt to be prepared for the wet.

They are very similar, probably 1.5 seconds off of a 2min track. Need to street drive them down to 4/32 or shave them. I'd also not throw a weird look at the Hankook RS3 either, I think Colin ran a 1:58 with no aero at TWS on them. I thought the 245/40/15 NT01 was dropping 4th quarter?

Spoolin has ran the bfgr1 and liked it but I think it only comes in a 225/50/15.

The Hoosier radial wets are insanely awesome.

If you want a set of tires that can stay sticky to the cord regardless of the number of heat cycles, I think Toyo RA-1, Nitto NT-01, and Kumho V710 are your best bet, especially if you like to slide the car around.

In my experience, the Hankook C51's will be very fast, but will heat cycle out pretty quick. i actually get better stick and longevity from Hoosiers.

It has been a long time since I ran Toyo RA-1's, but they were good and sticky to the cord. I currently have a set of 205/50-15 NT-01's on 8" wheels, and I'd say the performance is on par with what I remember from the Toyos. The tires like to slide a bit but remain sticky.

The Kumhos are probably the best choice, but the available sizes are very limited.

Why wouldn't you run the Contis? They are better than a Hoosier R6 and have very good life.

They are on a different level than the ra-1s. I'm not sure what you mean by your not sure how they will be on the track? I ran a set of used ones at Mid-Ohio in August and ran HC1 and TT sessions. I liked them, they were easy to get used to and I liked them better than the R6.

Do not get the Hankook C51s. They suck. Only a slow moron would use them.

Why would you spend money on the C51s if you already have the Continental tires?

Try them out, they should be faster than the NT-01 and in my experience they are easy to drive.

And if you run them and you like them and you want to buy more of them, I've got a few sets sitting around

I ran some 1:58's pre-aero on RS3's. actually my last event at TWS pre-aero. The RS3 is a great alternative, but I found that they wear faster then the NT01s. Though that may have been due to running different tracks/surfaces.

Oddly, shortly after I added the aero I blew an injector seal and never knew it until I pulled the motor. I noticed a blotch on the underside of the hood, but though it was the egr leaking...turns out it was air/fuel blowing past the #3 injector. I thought it felt slower, but blamed it on the aero.

Cant wait to get back on track with the new setup!

PS i have a small stash of gently used NT01's I picked up from spoolin if you realllly want to stick with NT01's.

Thanks. I guess we'll see how long these Contis last because I can't get more until next season. Can I get them new, rather than buying take-offs?

another bump for the RS3...I'm stunned at the 2:02 i did @ tws CW last fall....I'd guess a 2:04 would have been doable in my car in that shape.

With the FI upgrade on the kooks I hope to be under 2 min both ways...

TR has the C51s @ 168 a tire...but we got cooler weather coming up...and I never overheated my A6s in cooler weather...why not look into some 275 R6s and just go ape$hit?

Just a general comment;
Many R-comps seem to be on international backorder (or in very low stock) due to Tsunami and raised material cost issues.

So start hunting new rubber early (in the last minute you might only get four different ones ).

I'll sell you some! Lucky me - I've been in touch with RSR as they will be at Barber next month testing - which means a re-stock on take-offs - maybe - if can get them at $20/tire again...
I talked with the Conti guys when at Barber in the spring - only way to get them new is at the track - and you might as well buy them from Hoosier (same tire anyway) - They wanted $250/tire - my thought was I'll just buy 275/35s then
