Goes both inside the rotor and some on the rotor surface. To be compatible with everything, you can't get a full 2" of pipe to go all inside the rotor and we opted for leaving the space open instead of simply closing it off. Bigger rotors, like our 11.75" kit, have less air on the rotor surface.

It goes beyond ditching the ABS, though. Anyone with a 94+ chassis would be required to hack up their spindle in order to move the duct closer to the center. Even cars without ABS have that spindle nub from '94 on. In our opinion, that is a totally unacceptable solution.
That's why we came up with these - we wanted a plate that would fit all 90-05 spindles without modification, fit ABS-equipped cars without modification, and protect the two balljoint boots that are highly prone to heat damage from the brakes.
There are other plates available that don't fit 94-05 spindles or ABS, don't provide any heat shielding to the balljoint boots, and are more expensive to boot - if all of that strikes your fancy.

A more complex formed duct could dump air on either side of the ABS sensor to get more air in the center. But who would pay for it, if it doesn't make a noticeable difference, especially with bigger floating disks.
The biggest difference is to get some hose securely attached in there (going from nothing), the ones I have on the bench in my garage doesn't do a thing.
When I get these delivered I have one excuse less (there will at least be something secure to zip-tie the hose to).
