Hey guys, I would like some constructive opinions about my future Aero setup. It's not a full racecar, but if there is any benefit to be gained while still being and looking street-able then I am all for it.

Car specs are:
-205/50/15 RE-71R's
-G-Loc R10/R8 Pads
-ATE Type 200 w/ Stainless lines
-Power will be around 160-170 whp on a basic M45 setup + MS3
-Koni Orange + H&R Sports
-Racing Beat Endlinks
-Stiffer Bushings Everywhere

I do non-competitive AutoX, and race at Waterford Hills, Gingerman, Grattan, and sometimes Mid-Ohio. Currently I am thinking this combo:

1. Blackbird Fabworx Lexan Spoiler for NA and NB for Miata 1990-2005 (Low Angle of Attack for track, High for AutoX)

Any help would be seriously appreciated. I'm trying to stay away from a DIY setup at this point, but that could change in the future. Thanks in advance!

Lexan spoiler is a good choice.

I used to have that splitter, it's incredibly flimsy. Not worth it for function. I'm not sure what solutions there are that are off-the-shelf, but a simple DIY plywood splitter shouldn't be too hard.

+1 the BFW rear spoiler makes a significant performance improvement, but the TDR "splitter" doesn't do much. All the effective front aero options include some amount of DIY. I believe Kazespec makes a splitter mount kit but you still make your own splitter from plywood/alumalite/etc.

Looked into those myself, the Kazespec mounts are designed to drop the splitter in the event of a collision or offroad adventure.

I know.. not my top choice of design, but for those who don't want to do all their own fab it's something.

I would agree that the splitter looks pretty weak. A fab'ed up unit would be much better solution.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah I'm pretty set on the FabWorx Lexan Spoiler. Seems like it's universally approved around here. My issue with a DIY splitter (and I can fab basic things so that's not an issue) is the car is still technically a street car and I do like taking it out for Sunday drives, Cars and Coffee, general shenanigans and I'm worried that a full DIY splitter will be a bit of a burden on the street. Alternatively, do you guys recommend running the Lexan without a front splitter for the time being? Seems to me if it creates any decent down-force I'm gonna lose grip and turn-in on the front end.

I don't think I'm gonna go for that splitter. Seems to not have much real function compared to a DIY solution like you guys noted.

You can run the DIY splitter everyday if you want. Paint it so it last longer. A lot of splitters you see are actually wood. It is very common.

I wouldn't say that the Track Dog front air dam/splitter is useless. It looks like it will be somewhere between setup 3 and 4 in this simulation by Paul with Hancha Group:

That might be almost 100 lbs. downforce at 100 mph with a slight reduction in drag.

Since the spoiler angle is adjustable, it seems that he could easily balance the car until if and when he does more to the front. Besides, you want the car to be a little loose in slow corners from mechanical grip and have a little understeer in the fast corners from aero anyway, right? (According to the books I read, I have never been in a class on the track that allows aero...)

It would probably make a little downforce if it were infinitely stiff. I sure as hell wouldn't even let a 50 lb kid stand on that splitter.. it would either fracture, bend the bumper, or pull the rods out of the splitter. It's really that flimsy. As it deflects at speed it will lose it's effectiveness.

Kazespec is coming out with a solid mount kit.

i believe the kazespec kit won't drop the splitter anymore in an event of a collision. The newest design looks like a standard height adjustable chassis mount with heim joints/rods.
