2007 Dodge Ram 250 2WD Cummins Torque
18.5' enclosed
If we had it to do again, I'd get a 20-22'. Tows like a dream. 12mpg at a steady 65mph. Goes up any grade at any speed.
Be nice to be able to take two cars though and a 5th wheel conversion would be a waste with my single axle. So maybe a dually with a 5th wheel is in my future.

This is what I have to work with right now. It's my 'shark tank' but does the job for now. I can barely get my fat *** in it when on the trailer. I haul large scientific freezers and need the upright supports, hence all the freakin' rails... I added a removable bar to be able to haul 2 sets of rubber.

I get lucky with right-place-right-time sometimes. Stole a 3500 chassis GMC van. Only a 350, so it'll be slow and thirsty towing over the mountains, but for the price, I'm cool with it. Without towing, it holds 70 all the way up to Willow without even trying.
Fitted up some sleeping quarters for overnighting at the track, in the desert or up the coast with some boards. Plus, if I ever need it, I'll always have a place to live down by the river.
There's enough space under the bed when it's folded down for the storage bins, or for mounted 315/30-18s if I ever feel rich enough to burn that size consumable and get a Corvette. Will add some D-rings to the floor for bikes and quads.

Need to do tires. Probably gonna go with maxxis after doing some research. Current tires have nasty camber wear probably due to the shot wheel bearings. Gonna redo them all around also.
The pickup is a total POS. I hate it. Gets 7mpg towing (hemi gas motor) and I don't beat on it. Its uncomfortable and slower than my buddy's suburban towing a similar weight load. Its got 45k mikes and is falling apart already.

I own a hot rod shop, so we do things a little differently. '66 Chevy Apache 40. It's got the original 327 and 4 speed in it and it's a little down on power, so I picked up a brand new 8.1 (496) Vortec out of a surplus unbuilt motorhome chassis and a T56 for it. As soon as I get a free weekend I'll throw it in there, but paying work keeps me too busy and the 327 still runs fine.

i have a 2006 dodge durango 4x2 hemi and a 23' aluminum dovetail.
pretty much use a blow up matress if i spend the night at the track, hauls most of my stuff that i need, and can still take up to 5 passengers including myself.
Gas mileage is excellent. From my calculations, ive been averaging 18-22 mpg on the highway while towing. im guessing thats due to the airflow and shape of an SUV. The top of the durango is the highest point airflow sees, even with the miata on the trailer.

Standard 20ft trailers are pretty affordable, for a couple hundred dollars more the 20ft is a no brainer over anything shorter. You could probably picked something up used off www.racingjunk.com
