Default rear brake clips, do you guys keep them in place?

just did the rear brakes for the first time and the four clips seem pretty pointless. I did not really examine the brakes with/without, I just put them back on but I was curious if anyone runs with out them. they seem kinda pointless since the pads cant fall out. are they just for reducing noise?

car is a track car.

They help stop squealing and back the pads off from the disc stopping them from being worn tapered.

I don't run the springs, but I do run the little clips.

The 'clips' are guides which allow the pads to move freely.

The pads will rattle around without the springs. Dunno about the clips, it's easy enough to use them, so why not. But I lost my springs for a few days and they have their purpose. It was enough noise to be annoying for a DD.

really? cause they are called anti-rattle clips

the springs on the rear were forged by the devil himself.

I never have luck with the springs in the rear. I had the clips fall off on one side, it was extremely noisey, sounded like it was falling apart at low speeds lol. No issues with the anti-rattle clips in place.

this thread reminds me i need a new rear driver side bracket from my brakes.

i swapped pads over the weekend and could barely get the caliper to swing out...the slider pin looks bent so the caliper doesn't freely move.

someone send me one.

No, make a new pin on your lathe. What? You don't have a lathe? Why not?

Cobalt Friction pads changed the dimensions of the backing plate so they work without the clips fitting tighter to the caliper brackets without clips and don't actually fit with them. Makes changing pads a lot faster. I run the clips with other pads but have had no problems running without them with Cobalt pads. Haven’t messed with the springs in many years.

I assume it's pressed in, but you could probably drill it out.

I was being facetious. There are times when you just need to replace the part and be done with it.

Actually, yes it does. It's got a hex socket on the end that's normally buried inside the caliper, and it's just threaded into the bracket.

Brain, if you can confirm that the early brakes are the same as 1994, I've got a brand new pin sitting on the shelf I can mail to you.

Looks just like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-MX5-...05%26rk%3D1%26

From what I've found, it's th same for all years. PM me your address.
