The only thing that makes sense is that he has something better in mind, or something different. As Miatas go, what could be better than Crusher?

Going to only run SuperMiata with Speedventures and not NASA anymore. Can builder a car for a lot less and/or has plenty of Miata's built already that work for his racing needs.

I'm guessing this is more of a "business decision" than a "I've got an emotional attachment to Crusher" type situation.

I'd like to see SuperMiata become a nation-wide, low-buck series of events.
