Default Supermiata S1 - New turbo class for 2017

The original idea for Supermiata back in 2009 was a forced induction car. When we finally put the series together in 2013, we started with a simpler, lower cost N/A build to lower the barrier of entry. The current car is technically an S2 though we never refer to that class designation in public. With S2 participation starting level out (~22 cars built), we decided it's time to start prepping for the launch of S1 in 2017. That involves building a few S1's now and racing them as a demonstration class just ahead of the normal Supermiata start wave during the remaining races of 2016. Currently, 4 drivers have committed to building S1's this year. Those are the same drivers that fill most of the podiums of the current races so the playing field in S2 will get a bit more level starting with the September Buttonwillow event. 949 Racing's S1 will debut there.

S1 technical details

Unless otherwise specified, the car is basically the current S2 with some nice upgrades. In short, it's a 200whp turbo Miata with a big rear wing and fatter tires. Our estimate is that S1 will be roughly 5s faster than S2 at most tracks.
Figure 1:55's at Buttonwillow 13 CW in good weather. Like the current S2 class, power, torque and area under the curve will be capped.

Clif notes:
-Forced induction will be a spec kit provided by Trackspeed Engineering employing a Borg EFR 6258 turbo and TSE cast stainless manifold
-ECU will be limited to Megasquirt based software
-6 speed transmission allowed
-APR Performance GT250 or similar will be the spec wing type
- 4" splitter
-Spec tire will be the 245/40/15 RC-1 on any wheel width. Many will opt for 15x10's
- NA chassis will be allowed bolt or rivet on flares to clear the bigger tire
-Target power is roughly 200whp, 190lbs torque
-2300# min weight (same as S2)
-Front brakes will be a spec 11" or 11.75" Wilwood kit, drivers choice
-Conversion from a well prepped S2 to S1 will cost most drivers about $10k.

Rough idea of the are package:

As a bonus, I'll probably hit 350whp uncorked so running ST3 somewhere in the mid 200's, and time attack at say 300whp on Hoosiers will also be an option
Already kicking around ideas for T25 in E0 in 2200# @240whp trim on 225 R7s and the sequential. That could be epic. Kinda excited.

Completing T25 in E0 would really legitimize turbo reliability on track. Excited to see the series and the progression of these cars.

So in this thread you mentioned Megasquirt being the only ecu.

The FB page which links to the thq page mentiones open ecu.

Which is it?

turbo kit - here it states spec kit from Andrew. The thq thread states hotside only with intake open.

Which is it?

Is the IC free?

is the wing free, provided it fits inside the 'box'? Or 250 only?

Also, I dont see any specific engine rules other than whats in the S2 class.

Are rods/pistons free, or limited to the same weight requirement as the S2 class?

is the 6258 area ratio open?

can you/we post a document somewhere specific to S1 that we can refer to? Maybe an ongoing sticky?

Most recent S1 rule set will always be on the FB group.

Megasquirt software only, any ECU supplier is fine.

Hotside is spec, .64 A/R, the rest is open with the restrictions given.

Foil is open within the specs given.

Long block is free.

For S1 and ST3, you would want the .64 housing anyway. For ST2 or time attack, the .080 would also work well. It'll still make an easy 300whp on race gas with the .64

Lets move this conversation to the FB group where the other drivers can see it.
