Sounds like vacation to me, definitely beats sitting in a cube. I can't promise that I can do brakes in 2 minutes. But I sure as hell can change out a transmission fast as hell.

I've been out of the wine game for a while. If I ever did another wine trip I'll do it with my man-friend who's still in the wine business so I get to stay at the fancy estates as a token of their appreciation for him.

I'll vouch for Ryan G being a hard worker and a quick study. He's a good guy. Just don't ask him to solder anything. Seriously, he's young, dedicated, strong as a bull, and eager. The experience would be something he would value forever.

I wish I could roll this into a work trip and get a free flight out there. I have flown CT to Sacramento a half dozen times this year... going out again next week.
AND I am flying into LA for xmas this year at the future inlaws. if the dates were one week later I could completely roll this into an existing trip.
Bummer.

Alternate scenario:
3am
You are operating on about 7hrs sleep in the last 36

Sideways stinging rain
Soaked to your skin even with the cool water proof team jacket we gave you.
You are tired, in low power mode, trying not to burn up too much energy because your shift isn't over until 5am.
Your feet hurt
Almost without warning, our leading car comes into the pits after a passing ES car takes its right front corner off. Sparks flying on pit road as it slews in with the wheel dangling on a snapped lower ball joint. The brakes are now cool but the remains of the lower control arm are about 500° from grinding on the pavement for a bit. It goes behind the wall. Crew chief for that car shouting instructions to the mechanics. Parts being yanked out of inventory and rushed to the work area. Everyone scrambling.
In addition to the pad swap, the mechanical crew has to swap the entire RF suspension, cut away parts of the fender and bumper skin with a sawzall, realign sorta, rig the back up cornering light assembly, zip tie and duct tape the crap out of whats left, fuel it, 4 new tires and send it out in probably 18 minutes or so. A few laps later the driver jokes that it feels better than it did before the ES incident. Maybe that car finishes DFL. Maybe all the other teams also have problems in the rain and this car wins.
You bruised your elbow but can't remember how, practically steaming from the effort and utterly awake.

That sounds about right.
The other rainy, 2am scenario is:
Drifting in and out of sleep, you listen for your car(civic in this case) to come down the front stretch of VIR, and while it's on time and way up in it's class, it doesn't sound right. Your brain doesn't really process this since you've been up since 5 am. ...Sleep for another 2 minutes, when out of the darkness crackles your radio. "What the hell?! My water temperature just shot from 180 to 250 like that!" 30 seconds later you hear him come pass in front of you, with an obvious miss. Everyone's asleep since you're halfway between pit stops. You've got 2:20 to make a decision, and be prepped for the pit stop.
Chaos ensues......
45 minutes later everyone's juiced up, the car's back out on track with a brand new motor that the team owner threw together 3 days before.. but where in class are you? And will the thrown together motor hold?
