Default Cheap tires

Saw this on a local forum.

Seems that since SM going back to RA1s this season, Toyo is stacking the "old" R888 deep and selling them cheap. This is a good time to buy a set of track day tires or SM "practice" tires. Make sure you buy from an authorized dealer to get the rebate.

Cheap? ~$150.00 a tire is cheap??

Edit: I take that back. Just found a place online, 4 shipped to your door $578.00, then you'd get the 150 back. Not bad for some race rubber.

R888's are a wicked track day/rain tire. You don't know what you're talking about.

Sure they aren't the fastest tire but for %75 of the members here it's more than enough tire for them. Perhaps you had issues with them because you ran them at the wrong pressures? R888's run much higher hot pressures than NT01's and other tires. I'm suprised how many people don't know this. I found they worked the best on my RX7 at 38/41PSI hot.

Why the **** pay for track tires when you can get them from Spec builder for free?

Look up Spec Miata. None of their races are longer than 30 minutes, or 15-20 laps.
Make friends with your local spec Miata builder, and get free scrubs (tires that have seen 1-2 races, usually shaved RA-1 or R888) just for asking.

I have used them for the last 2 years, and, had them last between 4-6 track days, with autox thrown in, and being daily driven (And, no, I'm no slouch 'round the track. 2:40 around Watkins Glen, the looong way)
