Occasionally, when developing a part needed for one of our race cars, we have to order more than we need before our supplier will accept the order. These parts are often seriously expensive for what they are but solve a key problem on a race car so they get built anyway. Having to stop during an endurance race to swap pads can be the difference between winning and last place.

The latest trickle down, silly expensive but very trick part is our 2 Piece Directional Sport Brake Rotor. These only fit the front OEM Miata 10.6" Sport brakes. We have just a few extra hat assemblies to build kits with. Once those are gone, that's it.

To navigate a particular set of rules for NASA Performance Touring classes, we had to base our brake system on OEM Sport brake dimensions, thus the 2pc Sport rotor. We wanted the benefit of improved cooling from true right and left hand directional vanes but none exist. All the "directional" Sport rotors on the market are either straight vane or all right hand only with left and right handed gas slots. Directional Fail. To get true L & R directional vanes we had to make our own from blanks. As long as we were pouring some bucks down the black hole of race car development, we thought we might as well make them 2 pc with aluminum hats to save some weight and further improve cooling.

If there was actually a market for these (there isn't), we could bring the price way down with a large production volume. Makes far more sense to just install one of our Wilwood 11" front BBK's for about $600 though. As it is, the 2pc Sport will possibly solve a problem for one or two racers that have the same condundrum we did. Replacement left and right rings for this kit are in stock and cost around $90 each.
