I've got a good 4.10 rear I found in a dumpster 8 years ago with a broken housing. I've also got two other complete 1.8 rears - one open 4.10 that I was going to install an rx7 clutch lsd in, and a 3.63 torsen. I've seen some rx7 housings for ~$50 and I've got some poly diff bushings... so I was thinking I'd put the bushings in an rx7 housing, then put that housing on the 3.63 rear and put that 3.63 Miata housing on the open 4.10 and sell it. Now you know.

I broke a 1.8 diff mount right where the relief indent was. I replaced it with the rx7 housing just for good measure, it shouldn't be stronger per-say but it does not have the relief indent so hopefully it won't break on me haha.
Just fyi, I ran poly mounts on the diff that broke and am using them again with the rx7 housing. I will update if I manage to break it!

Oh FYI, the stock bushings in the RX7 housing are two-part units, so you just bend in both halves of the the metal sleeve around the rubber bushing and you can get the bushings out with just a hammer and beefy flathead screwdriver.
Much eaiser than the miata bushings that have the one-piece sleeves .

This thread is referencing the aluminum housing with the wings. Parts usable in/as a Miata rear are: LSD, stub axles, ring gear and the aluminum housing. The second generation non-turbo rx7 have these parts, and the 13b powered first gen RX7s also have the ring gear and LSD. IF the housing is the only part broken on your diff, then you can use the rx7 housing AND the Miata-specific bushings. IF you have internal issues, you are more than likely better off just finding a 1.8 differential. The open units are fairly cheap.
