I swapped in a TII RX7 rear end many years ago and have been driving my car ever since. Recently I broke my 5speed and when I was removing it I noticed the rear end/ driveshaft was just barely rubbing on my gas tank. Which could have been catastrophic. Thank god the transmission broke when it did.
In the first attempt I used a rubber mount welded directly to the front of the plate that goes across the the cross member. Then I made a L bracket to connect the diff to the mount.

Here is a picture of the plate once the mount and bracket was removed from the plate.

The rubber mount was just welded to the front of the plate. My question is would making a L bracket and welding it the front of plate solve my problem or do I need to completely redo this mount and weld it directly into the subframe as many others have done. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

First, I would like to thank Yank and Mighty Mouse for their input and tips on how to mount the TII RX7 Diff. I hard mounted it in the same fashion they did.

This is the mount before I tacked it into the rear subframe.



This is the plate that the old mount was on. Didn't leave much space for an exhaust.



Had to adjust the gas tank with a BFH to make sure had enough clearance. Then sprayed the spot w/ undercoating.


Mount finished and ready to reinstall rear subframe.


Finally finished installing 5 speed trans and rear subframe. Got the car back together and took the car for a ride. Couple of minutes in hear a screeching noise. It also happens on start up alot and normally will stop if u rev the engine up. I believe it is coming from the alt/water pump belt, but not sure. Here is a little summary of the car has a link Mk1 ecu that was upgraded to run IAT, knock sensor, and wideband. 1.8 swap into 93. Begi manifold, T3 turbo, Ebay intercooler, 440cc rc injectors. Any other ideas on the noise?

I am not getting any reading from the IAT or Knock snesor. Anyone else have an upgraded MK1 that could possible give me some insight. I may try and run wires all the way from the sensor to the ecu to eliminate any issues in the wiring harness.

Any reason to run a mount there rather than making an easy adapter from that to the miata PPF?

Also I was under the impression that the RX7 TII diff bolted to the stock rear mounts but hit the gas tank with the long nose and the 929 front part of the diff was suggested to avoid that.

Yes it does bolt to the rear subframe once you change out the diff bushings. The 929 front may keep it from hitting the tank but I must of missed that in my research. The 929 front may be a better option. The original diff mount had a rubber mount and was flexing a good amount due to age. I just thought the mount would be easier since the bolts are on the opposite side from the ppf.

Sent my old Mk1 link ecu to ken hill because IAT and knock sensor are not reading anything. Hopefully, he will be able to figure out what is wrong. I probably did something wrong but we will see. Figured I would clean up my engine bay a little while I was waiting. The car has been sitting for awhile and needs to be cleaned up and needs some maintenance. Here is a pic of what I started with.


Here is where I am now. Removed a few things and relocated some other stuff. I still need to relocate the vacuum line from the ewg to the intake pipe right before the tb. I am sure there is still a lot more that can be done to improve my engine. Any ideas are welcomed.


I am looking into upgrading my ecu in the next couple of months and am not sure if I should go with basic Ms3 from Reverant or Ms3x from the Brain. I like the idea of the digital output for WBO2 on Reverant's enhanced MS3 but not sure when it will be available. I have been doing a lot of research on MS but feel like I am behind the curve. Any input would be appreciated.

My wife said I can get a Father's day gift up too $300. I was thinking of coolant reroute spacer from Begi and possible a dual feed rail. My car still needs a real roll bar instead of this crappy style bar, heatshielding for turbo, MS, COP, 3" exhaust, new top, and my old suspension has gotten really bouncy ever since TII rearend was installed but is probably just too old. Guess I need to find our camera because these Iphone pictures suck.
