Default removing 1.6 diff with a one piece exhaust?

Hi,

Newbie hoping for advice please - the 1.6 (open) diff in my 200bhp BBR Turbo went bang...

First thing was to remove this knackered diff, which is almost out. Had a problem with the PPF sleeve/shoulder but that is out and now the problem is manouvering the diff out of the car. It is completely free and held in by nothing (well, a jack), I have also removed the spacer between the ppf and the diff...

Problem is almost no room to turn, pull or otherwise move the diff to get it out as the subframe is in the way, as is the ppf (this has limited movement), and the one piece exhaust is also in the way.

Anyone done this before on a car with a one piece/welded exhaust without disconnecting the ppf from the transmission?

Or is that what I need to do?

Thanks very much folks.......

its tricky the first time you attempt, i know exactly what your talking about.

Check out the Garage section at miata.net for proper instructions.

I always just drop the exhaust, remove the PPF from the trans and leave it attached to the diff and just drop it like that...much easier to get the diff on the trans than the diff.

But no, I've never tried to maneuver it around an exhaust...Nor would I at the shop.

However, if the PPF is off, there should be room to drop one side, the slide it out right?

I got mine out without removing my 3" exhaust. It can be done.

Thankyou for your comments folks. Didn't get a chance to finish the job before going away - back now so I think the next step is probably remove the ppf from the trans to allow more movement of that. Hopefully that will make it easier to drop one side out first.

Much appreciated!
