Default Ball shaft seperated from **** - rubber molding seperated

I doubt any one has seen this before. So, I purchased a heavy 1lb or more shift **** some time ago. Probably a month before my car died. I wanted it to sit lower so I threaded the shaft another cm or 2. During that ordeal and installing the shift **** I felt a give in something down there. Something was moving albeit under lots of force. I'll bet it was in part the threading of the shaft and tightening the **** as far as it would go.

I found out it was the shifter handle barely moving independent of the ball shaft. It was not a big deal as it took so much force to do and it never gave me any trouble. I recently was taking the car apart and replacing the shifter bushings, it's as if it got looser and after then sanding and polishing the ball it moved some more and now it's loose.

I'm trying some Gorilla glue as it expands. If not then JB weld. Any other adhesives to try? If not Ill have to drill and pin it or buy a new one.

Shiny shaft from the glue.

I think that's just a rubber isolator to get rid of some of the BP's stellar vibrations. That's the part that wears out and eventually makes it feel sloppy. That and a few of the other bushings.

5 minute epoxy would have fixed that in less time than it took you to write that elaborate story.

its just rubber remove some vibration. There was other crap people used. Basically any glue that dries like rubber will work fine.

Here u go. Search mcmaster carr or other places on google.

I doubt any one has seen this before. I purchased a heavy (1lb or more) "****" some time ago. I wanted it to "sit lower" so I "threaded the shaft." During that ordeal and "installing the ****," I felt a give in something "down there." Something was moving - albeit under lots of force.

Shiny shaft from the glue.

Ever notice that all it takes is deleting a word here or there and adding some awkward wink-wink-nudge-nudge quotation marks to turn something relatively benign in to something really pretty uncomfortable?

Just buy a new big black ****...I mean....shifter. You have a better grip on your ball in no time. No point in trying to repair the gapped hole that the shaft was pounded in to, they're never the same after that...just give up and move on. Besides, a nice new tight shaft will be better for your hand anyway.

As I read that I thought of the many short answers I could give. Could I say that I prefer 4 minute epoxy because that would have been funny as it was saying that my epoxy was even quicker setting than his 5 minute brand. Which A brand we aren't really saying at this moment. A moment on a forum being not really a moment but more of a time span that allows both parties time to gather their thoughts and such. By the way I like to party, but that means a good clean party. So anywho, back to the short answer. So saying I'd use a 4 minute is funny because it illustrates that my previous story was not actually that long?
Or I was going to be more serious and talk about some of the short posts and titles I had had to try and interpret. It really helps if we can get s decent thread title with as much info as possible so we can decide "hey, do I really want to read this guys post" Then once in the post are we going to get some history or details because I mean really that helps set up the reader with some interest and knowledge. And isn't that really why we are all hear, to learn and see interesting things. I mean I bet that what happened to me has only happened to 1% of Miata owners. Maybe I'll make my own website called 15minepoxyforseperatedMiatashafts.com and make minimums on the amount of words that can be posted each time. Yah, that is what I will do.

If the Gorilla Glue doesn't work I'll look for the Urethane thanks

I stopped reading when I got to this point.
On a side note, I have a long shaft (miata roadster ssk) with a bend to the left up for grabs. No ****, just the shaft. Fits into a 6 speed tranny.

Bro if gorilla glue doesn't work on your shaft you might need an operation

The tranny probably hates that you have no tip, but the bend likely still provides the friction needed

Thanks, I was reading that they changed the end during 2001 some time. Appreciate the offer anyways. Check the glue this weekend some time.

Had this happen a long time ago I cleaned all the rubber off set it on there and welded it together no problems ever again. I run a skunk2 weighted shift **** or a solid stainless 1 7/8" ball shifter all the time with zero issues.
