I'm curious, and just want an itch scratched to end my curiousity..

What is the longest spring Tein Flex can fit front, and rear?

Extensive searching revealed no results, I'm still looking and stumped on this.

i had I'd love to put an 8" 6 kg spring in the rear. i think it's 7.2".

I was hoping to switch over to Swift springs actually, Brainy. Rates could be anywhere from 224ftlbs to 1124ftlbs.

But what I want has a spring length of around 9"....Damn@Rear length. Sigh.

a 9" 200 lbs rear spring would work. and 9" 1100 lb spring would not.

spring length is irrelevant and will just mean the collar sits lower and you carry more semi-sprung weight.

There's a certain limit to how far down the collar can sit though, Y8s. I'll think over giving it a try - I'm not certain if going from a 6" rear spring to a 9" rear spring will do anything.

Too long of a spring will yield too much ride height even when the perch is at the lowest setting.

Too short will coil-bind before the suspension is fully bottomed.

The higher the ride height, the greater the tendency to coil-bind.

The greater the total travel, the longer the spring that's needed.

It will when the stock rear spring coil binds. I replaced my 160mm spring with a 175mm spring at the same rate.

I have 6kg rear springs, I could look to see how much extra adjustment room I have:




I think a 5kg spring at 9" overall length might just work. Keep in mind my car is heavy too...so it compresses my 6kg spring a bit more under lod shown above, and that ride height I'm getting is around 12.75" fender height IIRC. I dont have a pinch weld measurement.

blaen, what are you trying to accomplish? here's when you'd need a longer spring:

1. you want to raise the car and the collars are at the top of the adjustment level

2. you're using a soft spring and it squishes too short before supporting the corner of the car

3. you have an unhealthy love of spring compressors.

I have some 10" 250# springs if anyone's keen...

Well, here's the deal Brainy and Y8s.

I'm running 9kg/7kg right now. They are way the **** too hard for DDing.

I'm looking to swap over to something from Swift, and someone I know locally mentioned a possible assist/tender spring/main spring setup from Swift for the application, but the catch is: The combo is a 9" length.

I know for certain I'm going to have to swap out springs someday because these are too harsh for a DD (although a substantially better ride quality over my old Illumina's!), and I'm just trying to see what is out there.

are the tenders actually tenders or are they helpers? ie are they not coil bound (tenders) at static ride height or are they coil bound (helpers)? If the latter, the overall length really wont matter much and it'll just end up being the length of the main plus an inch maybe for the spacer and helper.

Not willing to step up to Xida's yet, Hustler. Someday.

For now, I'm thinking I'll just throw new Swift 8" 5kg springs on the rear, and move the 7kg springs to the front on the flexes. Or maybe 9kg/6kg?

So, Brainy and y8s, 9kg/6kg, or 7kg/5kg - you guys have experience with flexes, which would you recommend?

If you don't have Xidas, use the cheapest springs you can buy. Or buy springs to use with Xidas. If you want mu old spring set up, the new owner might sell them.

I wouldn't mind 7/5. I was going to do that but found a screaming deal on the rear springs I currently have.

They come stock 7/6, btw. But I was coil binding in the rear with the 160mm 6kg spring, and found a pair of 175mm 6kg springs for $45 shipped.

Where the are normally $60 each if you get Tein springs.


The biggest complaint I have with Teins is that I dont have an NB chassis and they arent Xidas.
