For all the talk about how these would easily sell if they were made, 3.308s have been a rumor for ~15 years and nobody has put up the money to actually produce them. $600 a pop, 30 point margin, so that's $~13k landed in the US for 30 sets. Sell them all at $600/ea, post a few forum threads, spend a few hundred on vendor fees for a couple of months, and it's a ~$4k profit easy. If it was such a sure thing, someone would have done it by now. Instead we're scrambling to buy the leftovers from the one aborted project that almost got them mass-produced in the 15-20 years there's been demand for them.

They were unicorn gears then, they'll be unicorn gears forever, IMO. Anyone who says otherwise should put their money where their mouth is

OK, since they have sold out, can't we cut all the conjecture, and get back to a trans solution?

I don't trust GB's for items that don't exist yet.

Regarding the speedo gear issue, I had a custom gauge face made by Revlimiter to match the change from 4.10 gears to 3.63 gears. It was not expensive. He could easily scale it for 3.3 gears in the same way. Problem solved.

I think this is probably the best explanation. They were built and sold.

With regards to the gears, Jacks is taking this project over and will be handling it directly
I think this has more influence as well. I think we will see another run. But since I have a set on the way I am hoping Savington has it right. Having something rare for my miata is the only thing that helps me sleep at night.

[QUOTE=Johnny wangwang;1400583]Interested in hearing how much more noise these make. Do the 3.63's make more noise also?[/QUOTE

while this doesn't identify the manufacturer or details, I am betting that this is the gear set PuddyMod Ben installed and reviewed here...

i still ordered; not sure if I got in while stock still existed.

I'm sure they'd sell some of those too if they'd answer emailed questions about them. I almost bought one of their gear types "rated to 1000hp" after I broke mine, but no response on if that was a real number or what the TBR was.

For someone who wants to confirm, you could slow motion the video and count the teeth, there is writing to identify a start/end of the count on each gear. If it's a 3.3 ratio then it's probably these gears since I don't know of anyone else who ever made them. The description (rough machining, not a flawless ground finish) matches the pics on their website and description here.

Pure speculation or direct personal experience? On this forum, we are pretty serious about quelling speculation posted as fact.

The reason you chose this forum is for the signal to noise ratio far better than the norm. Help to keep it that way by adding some veracity to your claim please.

From 0:51 to 0:54, he spins the gear slow enough to go frame-by-frame and count individual teeth. I count 43.

He never spins the pinion slow enough to count, but at 1:47, he shows a clear image of the pinion gear while stationery. You can't quite see half of it, but you can still see six teeth. If six is less than half, then the pinion must have 13 teeth.

Hope mine aren't that noisy. My gear shop is good enough to tell me if they will be, though.

I don't think you understood what he said.
To claim more than speculation you have to actually provide facts or speak for or as the source.

I think I understood Mr. Cervantes to identify that conjecture and bullshit has no place on this board. I have been here long enough, mostly as a lurker, to know that. Did I misinterpret that?

Reached out to Ben. We'll see what he has to say.
