Default Should I safety wire 2 piece wilwood rotors?

I think most track prepped guys safety wire the 2 piece wilwood rotors. My used kit came without the proper bolts to do so. Should I order the bolts needed to safety wire them? If so what about caliper mounting bolts? Should they receive the same attention?

We wire our rotors. Un-wired rotors scare me.

Wire the rotors and live to tell about it.

Thanks guys I just ordered the correct bolts so they can be wired. Do the calipers need to be wired as well?

The calipers bolts don't get flung around hundreds of times a minute in a circular direction while enduring near-constant thermal cycling, so it's not necessary to wire them.

Thanks Sav!

I spoke to the Wilwood tech guys to confirm that I was ordering the correct bolts. He was surprised the Miata brake kits have changed to torx button heads for the rotor/hat mounting. He agreed safety wire was best for a track car.

We're still using high-grade drilled hex head screws in every kit we sell. I doubt that will ever change.

Torx button heads can be safety wired too. See it all the time on jet engines (those are actually hex button heads, not torx). Hex head is a more positive safety though.

Always secure safety critical components.

Don't suppose a guy would have a link to these, would ya?

I picked up the Super Miata 11" kit and it has the same screws you are talking about, I'm not putting it together with those.

Also interested in the correct bolts. I haven't driven it much but was not happy to put them on without safety wire.

I Drill the bolts myself and safety almost everything. But after 20 years as an Aircraft maintainer, it's just a habit.

And these don't work with SuperMiata 11" kit with 949 curved rotors.

The shank is too long to allow the bolt to actually tighten the rotor to the hat.

I'm sure you can find what you need here:

Stainless Drilled Hex Bolts

But a safety wire drill jig and a pile of 1/16" jobber length drills would probably cost you less than the pre-drilled hardware.

Fastenal and places like that also carry pre-drilled stainless socket head capscrews, btw..

Thanks for the link, it's too bad they don't show the bolt dimensions on the shank.

I'm a pay more for solutions vs doing my own stuff. Limited garage/tool space and a lack of time means I'm willing to pay for convenience.

They make these things called rulers that make it really easy to find the lengths of other things. They (rulers) are graduated, and the markings can be compared to the item being measured, and a length can be determined by how many of the markings the item corresponds to.
