Apologies if this has been answered, or is a downright silly question: would the used shock revalve be available for R-Package Bilsteins? I know Shaikh no longer bothers with them.

Hi all-- new member. Car is 2002 SE with 90K on what appear to be stock (black) shocks.
Great thread.
I talked to Bernie a few days back, and he is still willing to give the group pricing. However--after talking to me about my needs, he advised me to try stock HDs. Now that's service!

My goal (sorry in advance about the novel):
I am looking for improved cornering, without loosing "much" commute comfort. I would seldom autocross or track, but might get into routine twistie mountain drives (santa cruz, CA mountains for example) with my wife or local driving club. Plan to supercharge after summer (FFS), because I like power and it sounds like a fun project (I suspect this group will understand).

I am interested either in FM sways and springs, or FM sways with stock springs. As I said above, when Bernie heard I was runnign stock springs, he thought the stock HDs would be fine, and suggested I wait to revalve, to see if the supercharged car proves to be too loose, runs through tires, etc. Revalve as needed once my other suspension components are resolved.

Finally to the question: Will stock HDs work okay with FM springs? Maybe with the 36mm FCM bumpstops? It looks like my car drop will be about 25mm with FM springs. If this setup will work with HDs, it allows me to go back to stock springs if I don't like the ride.

Anyone try running the FM springs with stock HDs?

Even better, any comparison of ride before and after revalve for the FM spring and sway setup?

Thanks!

The NB bilstein hd's are supposedly valved pretty well. The people complaining about crappy bilsteins are usually the ones with NA bilstein hd's.

They should be fine with that setup you mentioned. Everything should ride well.

Stock valved HD's will have no problem handling FM springs. HD's can handle up to 300/500lb springs with little effort. The FM springs are MUCH lower than that.

Chapman and falcon:
Thanks for the reply. Do I need to worry about the HD extension length vs sport with FM springs?

I think it would take quite alot for the springs to come off their perch.

Ultimately, I will probably send the shocks to Bernie for revalve, but after a summer getting familiar with the car, and a supercharge project.

By the way, I am also very interested in peoples reports on the revalves...

Can people still get in on this?

I have a set of R package bilsteins that I would like to get revalved.

Well, he turned mine around right quick - took a long time (either to get there or to make it to the top of his stack) but he called me in the morning and sent me dynos via email in the afternoon. Can't ask for much better than that (though... doesn't magic take longer? Chanting and druids and all that?).

Does anyone have a dyno plot of Koni Race shocks? I'd love to know where these are relative to what they are replacing.

Does SD need to know intended ride height too? If so, why?

Yes, probably to adjust the damping curve so that it is smooth through the usable range of travel. I really have no clue. Bernie is only a phone call away.

FYI: I know absolutely dick, about suspension.

This is what I found...which is why I asked:

"Dampers (shocks) don't care what range you're using them in. So using them at 11.5" won't affect them anymore than at 13.5" (assuming the same spring rate)."

It does matter in how aggressive you can go with the rebound and not ride on the bumpstops.

Put me down for new valved bilsteins, pending discussion with Bernie.
I left him a message.

Thanks for putting this together!
