Last weekend was very hot on the track. I was running TT, ran into some serious shifting issues when trying to shift moderately quick at higher RPM's.

Going slow, no issues, around town shifts decent. High RPM, hot temps and it would not go into any gear with out forcing it with perfect rev match.

Clutch seemed to function properly. ACT HD, releases at the floor but does release as I can depress the clutch in first, roll the car back and forth with hands while running.

Deciding what I need before tear down. 3rd synchros have always been trouble but usually not every gear.


Would it be just possibly a bad pilot bearing? Or possibly need a new transmission with new synchros?

Oh, and lol @ a Miata in TTU. TTU in NASA TX is stuff like world-challenge vettes, vipers, and general craziness.

We're talking about **** like Pfadt WC Corvettes here...no one in a Miata is outrunning 700+whp, with Dutch valved shocks, and 8'-wide wings. TTU is where LM-GT2 cars retire.

Of course my car would rape and spit, but that's because I'm so manly that my skill overcomes the $280,000 disparity in vehicle cost.

I had Red Line MTL I believe. I do not think the problems are lube related. Gotta be the pilot bearing and synchros.

Changed it and it looked decent, put some cheap dyno oil back in.

TTU is quite insane, but this weekend mostly just unclassified cars. I do have a friend that competed with a high hp turbo miata and did quite well. I was unclassified due to my recent MSII install. It was so hot the thing pulled alot of timing making it way down on hp. With a bad trans shifting 2 times per lap I ended up mid pack of 10.

The MTL is way too thin at 200-250*. I'm running AMSoil MTG and its working fine but even at 200* its starting to get thin at 15cst. I recommend you try the MTG because its just a hair thicker than MT-90 at temp.

Looking at the oil will tell you nothing about it lubricity. Hell, even looking at engine oil color tells you nothing even though it changes color...but gear oil doesn't see any chemicals or any pump, it simply floats around and lubricates gears.

I have had some problems before in other cars with soft engine mounts causing difficult shifting under really high loads...I would recommend MT-90 oil too.

While shifting, was there a lot of noise from the synchros or was it just hard to go in gear?
