Has anyone ran a centerforce clutch in there miata, and does it suck

My first clutch in my miata was a dual friction centerforce. It was great for stock & ok when I ran ~8psi with the GReddy kit. I'm running the 307ft-lb ACT setup for 6 or so years now with no issues.

Not in my experience but the big caveat is that I installed the CF dual friction 8 years ago now and they may have improved. Mine gave up the ghost at 8psi and above (1.6L) - I went to the ACT Xtreme and have not looked back.

It is a great daily driver very light and smooth. It just didn't hold 8psi and above for me. The ACT seems hold anything you throw at it, but it is heavy compared to stock and bites just off the floor.

04 Miata

I was slipping mine at 8 psi on a 1.6 engine and on my other car the clutch lost a counterweight and jammed the clutch. Run away from this clutch quickly.

Get the ACT, after 2 days you wont even notice how heavy it is. But then good luck driving anything with a lighter clutch.

04 Miata

Quite awhile ago. This is when these were "the clutch" to have because nothing else held power well. Today you have lots of other choices. Pick something else.

ACT or FM would be a much better choice.

I went to mexico and rented a VW Polo stick. I stalled like 5 times before we got going, then came home and stalled my car 5 times before I left the garage.

But in all seriousness, you forget the weight after 2 days tops. It just becomes second nature so quickly and then you wonder how the hell you drove a lighter clutch. I have better clutch control with a heavier pedal then a lighter one.

which stage should i get, I called the center force inc and they said the clutch could hold up to 225hp Im just trying to get to 200 or a lil over, because Im around 140hp right now

Get the Extreme, because later on when you want more power you are gonna kick yourself in the head when you ask yoursel why you jewed yourself over 100 bucks and got the cheaper clutch. Clutch should be a one time thing.

I used the CF clutch for a while. It was probably the best engaing clutch I've ever run. However, there are two things to consider:

It had shitty clamping force with clutch dumps, the clutch could slip easily. This is the same in my Altima with a CF clutch. It's due to the design of the weighed diaphragm system, they don't hold as much torque without high rpms forcing the weights outward.

Second, due to the friction material one one side of the clutch disc, you have to be really careful when torquing it down. I pulled mine because it would slip when it was cold out (running around 200rwtq). When I pulled it, I found that the PP wasn't torqued evenly and I had a hot spot on the PP.

Running an ACT HD 6-puck setup now. I'd really like to try an FM Stage I kit.
