I had a hard time finding 205/50/15 Azenis in stock but bought the set of Sportmax 15x6.5 with near new 205/50/15 Azenis RT615 in the classifieds. They put me out of stock class, unfortunately. I DD my 99 and put on about 4,000 miles a month which I know will kill the Azenis fairly quickly. My thought is, will the 205 Azenis fit on my stock 15x6 NB wheels? It would get me back into CS, although still losing to the R-comp guys, but at least it would get me back out of CSP.

If I can do that, what tires would you reccommend for a high mile per month DD to go back on the Sportmax wheels? I'm thinking General UHP, maybe RS2's. I'd like to get some miles out of them, so they might not be the best choice. Maybe back to the 712 or 912 Falkens? It has 195 falkens on the stock wheels now, but they are 2001 vintage and pretty worn. I'd like to stay with 205 minimum, possibly 225's if they will fit on the 6.5 width. I've now decided that the car is only getting a mild 6psi in the next month or two when BEGi releases their new ECU so I am looking for some reasonable width tires.

The 205's will fit on the stock wheels. It's not ideal for handling but for DD I wouldnt worry. For your Sportmax I would suggest the Nitto NeoGen VR. I Just got them about a month ago and am extremely happy with them. These have a 280 treadwear so they will last a bit longer that the Azenios and RS2's and they are very good in the rain.

Falken Ziex 512's (i think they discontinued those and have the 912's now) are a great all around DD tire, last forever and handle decent especially in the rain.

I think you misunderstood me. I wanted to put the 205 RT615 Azenis on the stock wheels for autox and new 205's on the Sportmax for DD. I think I may have a slightly bent factory wheel, so wanted to keep the Sportmax for DD, as there is some vibration on the factory wheels at highway speeds that went away when I put on the new wheels/tires. Some of that vibration may be from the old 712's, though. The factories would be good (straight) enough for autox if they will handle the Azenis. I don't know they are bad, but a week ago at the auto x on the road course, one of the Miata guys following me said it looked like one of my rear wheels was tweaked.

I have the General UHP's, good tire, on the soft side though. Fantastic in the rain and light snow. For the price I paid I am satisfied.

Throw the azenis on the factory wheels, when you burn thoes off get a set of Z1 star specs and run in st, or get a set of r comps, then get a set of fed 535 ss for the sportmax.

I am leaning that way. Soft is OK for road tires. Good rain handling helps when I am travelling for work. Right now they are at tirerack for $63 with a $50 VISA gift card. That covers the $40 shipping charge. Might just move on these. Good to know that the Azenis will work on the 15x6. That makes all of this possible.

BenR, have you run the Federals or do you know someone that has? Price is good, but essentially the same as the Generals with the $50 discount through Online tires. I had never looked at Online before. They do have great prices. Actually the Generals would be a bit cheaper than the Feds.

The feds are a bit stickier compound. They not a R-compound, but they do pretty well with the local $50 street tire track challenge. They do chunk after a while, but my track is notoriously hard on tires so YMMV. They also handle the rain well, at least did on my car.
