I am 100% behind 600hp Miatas in principal but we keep chasing the next weak point either way. We figure out the rear end solution we need axles. We figure out the axles, we need a transmission. We figure out the transmission - we need rubber, and honestly as 18psi mentioned, we also have less weight and wheelbase as well as a suspension not designed for straight line.

So - at some point the answer is no longer Miata.

But if we see more cars with demand for more rubber we see more options. We might see more wheels, more tires, etc. Progression is always good.

and for the record, I support all efforts to achieve absurd completely unusable and uncontrollable power, just pointing out that folks really shouldn't be comparing a miata to the much larger, awd, and longer wheelbase cars, or muscle cars.

Low 300s. I have had traction problems, but rarely spun in third. Even second was mostly well behaved. Keep in mind this is in perpetually 80 degree Florida weather. In cold weather the car would break loose in second and third a lot more easily.

BTW, I agree with you about the practical usefulness of giant power levels. I have been doing mainly reliability upgrades since uh probably 7-8 years ago.

I always assumed that a 600hp build would run lower boost in the lower gears and/or have traction control to keep things from getting retarded. I wasn't considering it as a serious option for street or track use, just wondering why more people haven't done it at least for drag racing or bragging rights.

There is a guy that lives around BEGi's shop area, rebuilding a msm motor with 11.5cr / e85 / efr 6258 and is planning on 20psi.

I know a couple, they're not on forums much.
This one at I think 450-500ish spun 4th and 5th on the freeway.

It's really not a pleasant feeling. Not like gunning a gtr or corvette. Maybe I'm just old and soft lol

I haven't ever been in a GTR or now that I think of it, an evo either. Come to think of it, I haven't been in a corvette, at least not any from the past 10 years or so. I really don't know that many car guys anymore except on the internet.

Sorry for the threadjack, but how much hp can a T56 hold? And how are the ratios? How is the pricing? I'm under the general impression that it's a commonly used performance part for domestic RWD cars.

Pretty much any ratio you want. Pretty much any amount of power you want.

You gotta pay to play though.

IIRC, the T56 is what people use in turbo Vipers. You're not going to break one with a Miata motor.

The T-5 is much more compact at 75lbs over the T-56's 125lbs. You also get more potential down pipe clearance.
